I want their groove 480 so bad. Or the edge. I just need a 3d-able balsa park flyer.

Those both look like awesome aerobatic park flyers... if you need some more inspiration, here's a few others that might fit that bill :D

I like those a lot. The slingshot really sticks out to me.

Made a little more progress on the wing - all the main colors are down and shrinking complete. On to the fuselage next, and then we'll come back and add the white pinstriping to make it pop! :D

And I took a closer look at that bottle of Trim Solvent, and hey - it does have some chemical information after all! My bad!

No idea what a common source of cycloheanone would be - the 1(3H) variant of the dihydron-furanone isn't mentioned anywhere I can find, and the petroleum hydrocarbon umbrella covers hundreds of compounds derived from crude oil so not terribly specific. o_O

Can any of ya'll make sense of this? I've got a friend who is a retired chemist - going to ask if he has any ideas for more commonly available substitutes we can try while I look around the web a bit too.

Might be easier to find the adhesive formula and work backwards. Pretty sure the covering factory isn't using the trim stuff as their solvent. Also bet you the cycloheanone stuff is an evap inhibiter. Tried methanol, trichlor or MEK or butyrate solvent?

Trichlor used to be in "good" white out, sometimes still used as propellant, mek is standard box store solvent, also in drug/fiberglass making, same for methanol which is also sometimes in mouthwash, butyrate dope thinner at old school hobby shops. Guessing since they stopped making it it contains one of the above

Pvc pipe goo is mostly acetone, MEK and dissolved PVC. Could end up messy.

Yeah, I'm thinking that too. He thought the fumes might be enough to activate the adhesive, but I'm not confident about being able control it well enough like that. I've got a workshop full of other projects that took over (some repairs from today's flying session and a used guitar to refurbish for a present) but I'll get back on this in a day or two.

Finally got back to this project for a couple minutes today. Forgot about the solvent testing but will pick that up again soon.

Did get the other side and top of the nose covered, as well as a coat of modpodge sealer around the cockpit so it can get some black acrylic paint.

When I see that color on an airplane it reminds me of Bill Bennett, the late owner of Circus Circus in Las Vegas. He was a serious RC modeler and started the Tournament of Champions, the biggest RC competition in the world. He was a tremendous advocate for RC flying and competition. All of his airplanes had the Circus Circus livery. His legacy lives on at the William G. Bennett Field in Las Vegas where international competitions are still held.

Seam test successful!! Using the iron and connecting the covering pieces over thin plywood worked just great - as strong a bond as the solvent. Hooray!

A little more work done tonight too. Vertical stabilizer covered and installed.

And the elevator and horizontal stabilizer installed too - still need to put the hinges in though

Time for some pinstripes! Testing out the spacing on the wing first...

Seems interesting to me... Let's add them to the horizontal stabilizer next...

Next up - fuselage on this side... Then if I like it all I can duplicate on the other side.

Also need to find some classic plastic model cement to put the canopy together, and then try to put a layer of covering on it. Not too confident that will work, but will try it before getting a paint sample mixed and spraying...

Mmmmmmm, balsa.

If the canopy is clear, use canopy glue for it. It dries clear and holds very well. Many people aren’t aware this type of glue even exists.

Man, I was too tired last night! I wrote "canopy' but means to say "cowl" :D

But, using canopy glue for the cowl might be a good idea too - have you done that before? It's a two piece polystyrene cowl...

Thanks!
