SU-27 Build Guidance and Pictures

v2 of the scaled down version is now ready to maiden.

Main things I have done differently compared to blueprint and my v1
  • no Main plate. Instead the wing bottom was extended with necessary parts according to main plate blueprint
  • transparent canopy with some cockpit appliances
  • placed 2x2 cheat-inlets on the sides of each nacelle so the fan catches more air and less grass/dust
  • tried some digital camo by using acrylic color spray cans
  • Materials:
    • 3mm Depron for major parts, i.e. skin and parts not exposed to forces
    • 6mm Depron for wing bottom = mainplate and spars
    • wood glue instead of hot glue, which gave me much more time to fix/adjust but took tape and a few hours to dry. Its also lighter and less messy
    • 25g/m2 glass tissue with water based PU finish for the nacelles, the mid section and nose
    • Plastic bottle for canopy
    • Lightweight Easy Foam Filler for some curves

Despite the color and the glass tissue I have saved 320g of weight (1020g) compared to my v1 (1340g) which is due to the use of depron over (EU) kraftpaper foam board.

Now as she is ready and look soo pretty I am kind of hesitating to maiden her :)

Outstanding work man, that turned out amazing! You must have some mad patience with that camo coloring :) Best of luck on the maiden!

Maidened…. What a beauty in the air. The ZOHD kopilot Flight controller does a good job in gusty conditions.

3s 2200mah gives about 4-5mins flight time for 2x 50mm 12 blade 30A EDFs with some juice left for safety precautions.

I will build the next version, the su-30/37, most likely in the upcoming summer. The design is pretty much complete.
Dear Flitedesign3d, well, summer is here and I can't wait until I get some new plans to sink my teeth into....
Any news are very much anticipated

Well do I have some exciting news for you then! It’s summer indeed and It’s time to build some planes again :) The plans for the SU-30 are ready to go, only things left to do before the build are making the cnc toolpaths for the sheets, modeling some 3d printed parts and I also need to build a new needle cutter attachment for my cnc to cut the sheets with. You can expect an update on the main thread very soon, maybe even next week! Meanwhile, here is something to feed your curiosity with :D

I see what is lurking back there...

My SU is looking pretty rough

Sounds exactly how it's supposed to be flown! What's the problem? Is it the glue joint between the fuselage and the printed stabilizer mount?
There is a lot of play with the mount. It's glued and then I reinforced it with some balsa ply along the engine nacelles. I think it's most noticeable when I'm rolling. I thought it was the servos but I swapped them with metal gears.

I just need to get more batteries!
