I haven't yet started building my next flying plane. I've got the FT Corsair, a balsa Spitfire Mk. IX, and a balsa SE5 in my stash. But I'm currently working on a scale kit from Tamiya that I've had in my closet for about 2 years now. I'm not holding anything back on this one and putting all the detail I can into it. It's coming nicely and I want to share it with you all. I think this post fits in this forum.

Enjoy and let me know your thoughts! Much of this hobby is about sharing our builds with each other :)

Wow thats fantastic. Unfortunately all my modeling aspirations have to wait until I can buy an airbrush. I have tried three with brushes and they look great from a distance but if you examine it, there are brush strokes.

Looks great! I did the wiring on my 1/48 Tamiya corsair and added electric wingtip lights. Yours is coming along very nicely.

Thanks! I have no intentions of ever putting electronics in my scale kits but they look really amazing when done right! I'd like to see pictures of yours if you still have it.

It's true. Airbrushing really is the only way to get that smooth finish that looks good up close. I'm no master at it yet but I'm satisfied with my work. I build for my enjoyment so I don't stress over scale accuracy too much and just enjoy the process.

You can fudge things a little bit. Either thinning, or adding some flow-aid to your paints help them lay down flatter. If you're spraying big areas you can use a little Preval sprayer https://www.homedepot.com/p/Preval-9-oz-Complete-Spray-Gun-267/202533738. It's not as good as an airbrush, nowhere near as controllable, but it does work for getting that smooth spray-finish.

Tex, gorgeous looking model. I don't have enough interest to try forming all those intricate little details on my models, but man do they look good.

Sadly my cat jumped from my desk and yanked it down from the ceiling, in the process killing it )-:
