TAZ Psyborgs attempt at a 100 mph quad

Now who wants to sponsor me so I can have batteries and props to fly it

The switch to 5s and then 6s is gonna hurt. I be like buying one battery a year.

I feel ya. Thats why i run two 3s in series on my 6s plane, but I'm sure the weight+resistance of that connector wouldn't be too helpful on a 100mph run

Just spent a while looking for reviews. They seem like OK batteries.. no one has hammered them like I will be doing though. Maybe Ill snag a pair and see after I get the quad built and tested on the 4s I have. AND recuperate cash.

Someone pointed out that the 70c and the 100c weigh in the same. So either the 100c is BS or the 70c is under rated. Either way the 70c seems the way to go.

I have three of the 70c 4S 1300 and they're very solid. I only have a few cycles on them though.

Kebab gave them a good review starting at 12:45

I’ve been looking at the same batteries. Are they durable, French? I tend to “land” inverted on my batteries a lot.

I'm not to sure about Kabobs reviews.. They seem pretty biased and he has certainly been confused when talking early about fad of the moment things like prop direction, soft mounting and disc theory and weight effects..

I did how ever spend some time in Google university and they seem like viable batteries worth a shot. I did read more then once to get the 70 c as their C rating is questionable as to whether the 100c is over rated and the 70 c is very under rated as they both have the same weight which does not make sense. Which ever the case is true the 70c is the better deal.

Once I get it built I will grab two and see what they are like and if they can stand up to a bit of hammering. I know I have pushed the Alien far enough it has killed several 1300 graphenes. I do how ever have a few that are nearing or over 100 cycles and still going strong. I am full on all about proper break in of batteries as to their longevity. Couldn't tell ya their internal resistance or anything like that all I know is they charge fine and rip when I hit the throttle.

That is why I want a serious battery for this build. I do not wanna hit the throttle and have it burst into flames and become a meteor. Specially since it IS a race build and I expect performance. At least this build will have a current sensor capable of reading up to 140 amps. So I can know when to get off the throttle instead of guessing because the one I currently have maxes out at 63 amps and I know I am pulling into the 80s at times on the Alien.

I don't judge batteries by their weight, but rather by their performance. Higher C does not necessarily mean higher weight. It does usually equate to larger volume. C is a function of how connected the power leads are to drain the capacity out of battery faster and safely. Weight increases as Watt Hour capacity is increasing. Higher S and mAh DOES equate to higher weight.

I'm partial to Strix and Tattu batteries. Also have some good Glacier batteries (and a handful of older puffers). Both Strix and Glacier are sourcing some batteries from Tattu now, but at a slightly lower cost.

Here's a few to consider for BIG POWER:
Glacier ICE 1300mah 5S1P 75C
Tattu R-Line 1300mAh 5S1P 95C
Tattu R-Line 1300mAh 6S1P 95C
Strix HV 1300mAh 4S1P 100C
Strix HV 1550mAh 4S1P 100C

There are 4S1P variants in these as well.... just thought you were trying to push the edge.... ;)

Cheers!

EDIT: What prop size/pitch/blades are you looking for?

Elev8, they seem just as durable as any of my other batteries. Good, tough outer wrap and thick plastic protecting the back.

Nice LB thanks for the links. So far that is the cheapest R Line I have seen. I got my first Tattu battery at FFE and have a few flights on it. So far the jury is out as to how it compares to the Graphenes. It is however keeping up but I have only flown it mildly so far. I recently dropped the camera tilt on my Alien back down to 25-30 degrees for dedicating that to free style. I did run tracks with that setting the last few days and was surprised a bit when I got faster times then before.

I seem to be holding a higher average speed around the track now this way even though I have to fly at 40+degree roll angle to see where I am going hehe. Will post a run I did the other day to show it.

For the race quad I will start out on Cyclone 5046x3 props til I am used to the power on 5s and work up from there to 5050 cyclones before jumping to 6s and back to the 5046 for final set up depending how the quad deals with power consumption. I am thinking it wont be til next spring before I start hitting the 5s hard.

September starts my third year flying so the goal is to find sponsors and hopefully get on a team some where for the year. Which means I will have to be more active on social media...Dread the thought of having to start a FB page..
