The big bang of Mustangs

I am not saying it is a bad motor, I am saying it is over priced. There are comparable motors of the same quality and performance for half the price if not more. Yes you get what you pay for and some of the cheap stuff is junk but to put a high price tag on it doesn't make it any better . These motors all come from the same place, China. Most in this hobby have a limited income to throw at it, for $65.00 US I can build a whole new plane start to finish including a battery and it would perform just as good if you had the Rimfire motor in it.
I get it isn't for everyone, makes sense to go that direction. It just doesn't make sense to try to rally against it just because of the price, even if someone wants to sink the coin to get it and try it out, especially after I have been using mine consistently since I got into the hobby. It degraded yet another level of this hobby that I have worked so hard to maintain. I was just a little cheesed that's all, I am over it. No hard feelings

Here she is after getting the wheels on it and the servos in it. The wheels weren't as big as I remembered but it still should handle some grass.

I had Mini Mustang but it just didn’t work out like I wanted. From the start it seemed smaller than I though it should be. I had it happen once when the plans just printed smaller and it did it again. Things just didn’t line up good and I felt crap about the whole build with things that broke and got repaired during the build. I hate doing this but had to, had to let out some frustration. So I just trashed the damn thing and will have to build a new one, after all its just foam board.

Wow what a beautiful wreck. I noticed you use the same servos as me.👍

LOL, I have felt like doing this on some of my planes, but I have never pulled the trigger.

What a cathartic lift off my chest seeing your post! I actually felt similarly at times during this build too. It feels like my small mistakes are going to amplify as the plane gets more involved. (I just noticed you have push your kids toys out of the way when building too. That’s making me smile 😃) I want to fly this plane hard and maybe learn something new, too. I suppose I’m already looking ahead to an irreparable crash and a rebuild.
I’m just about done now.

Still want to minwax, paint and maybe put wheels on. @mach1 rc , how does she fly with landing gear? I’m only using 3c batteries so I don’t want to weigh her down too much. But I see how LG will protect the servos a bit.
Happy Friday all! I hope everyone gets clear calm skies to fly in!

That my friend is what FB planes are all about. Really you only have maybe $3 worth of foam and a little time invested, pushing your limits and learning new stuff is exactly why we build these. Imagine spending $60 on a balsa kit that you spent 3 months building and looking pretty, would you feel the same about pushing yourself and improving your skills. I want to build a balsa sometime but I want to be sure that when it goes up, I don't want to brain fart and pull up when I should have rolled out, turning it into a collection of kindling lol.

These little planes are more susceptible to weight then say the bigger planes are but if you put LG on it to begin with you won't notice the difference, plus LG on the little ones will be lighter then the standard size models so you really aren't adding so much more weight then it can handle. 3s will be plenty of power to handle it. When it comes down to it these planes are so light and noticeably stronger then the big ones that they don't even need landing gear, most of the time they just nose over anyway. Unless you are flying indoors and have a gym floor to take off and land from the LG really act as a lever to catch ground anomalies and rip out of the wing, causing more damage then without.

I personally wouldn't do the landing gear on this plane, but if you want to do it, I would attach it under the fuse instead of the wing with skewers and a rubber band method so they have some spring to them. It's easy, removable, and safer on the plane in the event of a less then desirable landing. It is a method they do on the, and FT-3D and works awesome on the Mini's. Check out the build vid for it and see what you think
