THE FORSTNER BIT!

I just discovered a new way to bore holes in light ply and other types of hobby wood we use to build airplanes! THE Forstner Bit! For a while now I have been struggling with drilling holes in airplane parts with splintering and chipping and you know...anyway I saw on the internet some guy mentioned using something called the Forstner bit to make some parts and I thought I would try it out. I was amazed, a perfect laser cut like hole that was beautiful! Why didn't I know about this magical bit before? I don't know, but I thought I would share with others my discovery.

there's a hierarchy of bit quality. not counting tool material of course.

Spade - the one with the flat end (looks like a spade) kinda like a fake forstener. cuts rough round holes.
Twist - the standard one that everyone knows what looks like. cuts triangle holes in thin sheet metal.
Spur Bit - like a cross between the forstener and a twist. it cuts nice round holes.
hole saw - for really big holes. cuts like a forstner, but usually isn't as rigid.

then the king of drill bits:
The forstener bit - perfect holes, they come in every size. don't tear. with a cutter and a chipbreaker, these things are unstoppable. usually more expensive, but for quality holes, there is nothing better.

Forstners are great bits, but DANG, they're expensive...

Expensive, but worth it if you don't want your wood all cracked and chipped from drilling. I cant believe I didn't know about these bits all my life...
