I don’t know if it was a nucleus, I didn’t see any electrons or neutrons….

Jk, I know what you meant! 🤣

Hey friends,

This week’s post isn’t about a build, a flight, or even a crash. It’s more about life and where I’m heading.

There are some changes happening at work — the kind of changes that make you stop and really think. Do I stay in the same place, maybe take on a different role with different terms? Or do I look for something new altogether?

But here’s the big question that’s been eating at me:
What if I tried to make this hobby — our hobby — something more?

I keep imagining what it would be like to create something here in Israel that’s like what Flite Test has done — a community hub, workshops for kids and adults, events that bring people together to build and fly. A place where the magic of flight and creativity meets learning and fun.

It’s scary, though. Quitting the safety of a steady job for something uncertain is no small decision. But at the same time, I wonder if I’ll regret it one day if I don’t even try.

Have any of you been at a similar crossroads — turning a passion into something bigger? How did you know when to take the leap?

Thanks for letting me share this here. This thread has always felt like a diary of my RC journey, and you guys are a big part of what keeps me inspired.

Maybe it’s time to stop gliding and throttle up into the unknown…

From experience: making a small fortune needs a really big fortune as a seed point. Two income family with no debt helps, ditto for very small expenses and darned good health insurance. If you ran the numbers to see if this pens out, do it again using worst case data.

Makes the financial officer crazy, but sometimes you just gotta be you

my experience; my partner an i started a new business 40 years ago. we were both married with 3 young children each.
we worked at the same company and saw that it was being run into the ground by an absentee owner who was sucking out all the profits.
so we knew the market, customers and manufacturers very well.
so we wrote a business plan and had a meeting with the small business administration. they hooked us up with a bank and a line of credit. we didn't have much in the way of assets, but with personal guarantees and pledging what we did have, we got start up capital and a line of credit for inventory and accounts receivable.
everyone we knew thought we were crazy. we worked like dogs and there were some sleepless nights, but we believed in ourselves, and survived for 30 years, even through the crash of '87 and the dot com bust of '99.
the only advice i can offer is to research as much as possible, do your due diligence, get on the same page with anyone it might affect, and make your decision on facts and data, and not emotion.
all the best!

My parents started a seed business 20 years ago and started out with a few thousand...It has survived all this time and provided for a big family, vacations ect. as with any business there are ups and downs but it always seems to work out in the end if you do your part, and leave the rest up to God.
My parent were able to save thousands by building the website themselves which in these days isn't THAT hard...Basically if you can learn CAD, you can learn to build website, and ChatGPT is great for writing content (As long as you check the important facts) ..I know some people really bash ChatGPT, but I can say as long as you don't look for it to be something it isn't it's a great tool.
As @bisco said, there are going to be some long nights but just keeping going and you could probably make it work. A thing I would look into is there a good demand for that kind of stuff in Israel? The thing I like with your own business is you have more control over your future, your work hours ect. but there is a flip side to that, you have to make your self do it instead of having a boss who will let you know if you aren't doing a good enough job 😂
So that's my experience, do with what you will!(y)

Right place right time concept is really important. Buggy whips without a meme to push it would probably fail because hardly anyone uses horses for power. Not even a huge market in Amish communities.

Don't know how many of you were around here back when FT was starting out, but it was a bold idea with crazy added for flavor involving two of my favorite past times: building and flying no hassle airplanes in places that an unmuffled .049 would get instant red and blue blinky lights. ANNND you don't have castor.oil everywhere to.clean off.

I agree though @bisco , electric planes are best👍
Actually, it is what your passion is, scale, one way, a Corsair with a electric or nitro? At one point, where 55cc gas and lightweight carbon planes(80 inch plus wing) and with 2 lipos (ignition and receiver) you got to redo all the 3 D stuff. Hovering, knife edged, rolling circles etc where you can fly for 20 min nonstop. That is flying. Now add oil for smoke to the exhaust, Can you do that to your electric?.
And when helis, I preferred 30 % nitro over flying electric.

Different strokes for different folks. Mr Man, how about a SR-71 powered turbine or electric?
