THIS IS IMPORTANT!! DJI DIGITAL AND WHY YOU SHOULDN’T BUY THEM!!

These goggles are amazing but the problem with them is that they are too good. In other words dji is in this for money not to improve the hobby. Meaning that while they have the best goggles on the market if everyone buys them they will be the market. That means the end or delay of of innovation in the fpv market. Thank you! Please make this thread well known. We need to let everyone know who they are supporting. Buy the byte frost instead. You are supporting fatshark which actually cares what you think.

In addition the byte frost is open source meaning that it will be able to use different cameras and will allow other companies to use some of their ideas.

Much ado about nothin here mate.

Already proven to be too laggy for racing and proximity freestyle. Not to mention its DJI and its over priced and out of most of the flying publics reach fiscally. Its a nice entry into the digital world but first is not always best and skyzones already got new goggles out Bardwell says beats the video quality.

Stew is sounding like a drama queen in that video.. he gives no real explanation let alone any facts to support it. My guess is he had a tif with DJI. If a single piece of gear takes over the industry its because politicians were paid off and it got mandated by law... Just like the AMA tried to back door the whole community and get locked as the only CBO but instead got labeled as invalid as any other til the powers that be can define what they want a CBO to be.

They are actually decently priced for what they are. Also I am worried because a lot of the people are going and looking at rotor riot and I think that it is obviously made to look like the dji system is the best of the best. Also the range of the dji system beats the goggles bardwell is talking about sorely. And the immersive field of view. For beginners they look very tempting.

Well... Rotor Riot IS paid to present the product the way they do.

They have better range because they run on a 700mw lower frequency then normal goggles so they will smoke a 2.4 gig system. Anybody who wants that kinda range (which once again is legally not useable as it is WAYYYYYYYY further then a spotter can see with bare eyes) uses external modules, a docking bay that holds modules on a tripod or a full on ground station.

Trust me not everyone will be rushing out to get these. Our hobby has some of the most cheapest of the cheapskates as far a hobbies go most thing paying 26 dollars for a motor is too much so they wont be buying them any time soon. Others like me will not buy DJI on principle because of what they have done to the hobby with the phantoms that started this whole cluster bomb with the government because how they present them. YES anyone can put a drone in the air... not everyone can actually fly one. Most DJI users dont even read the instructions and end up with fly aways because they cant fly, dont understand how RTH works... anyway I digress.

Bottom line is less then one tenth of all multirotor pilots will even think about buying these goggles.

No beginner is sitting there thinking about spending $1000 on goggles. People ask if it’s worth it a lot, to which I usually say “not if you are just learning.”
Theres a place for digital systems in FPV’s future, the high end, semi pro and “all the gear” pilots are using it simply because they can. There’s environments its clearly better in, like lots of metal or reflective surfaces and it’s true that the cost of the goggles and camera is comparable to a top end analogue system.
Most beginners weren’t dropping $1000 on a top line camera, GoPro and Fatshark HDO’s with a Rapidfire module before these came out.
Many people don’t enter the hobby through Rotor Riot.
The fastest growing area right now, mostly due to dumb regulations all over the world, is sub 250 micro quads. The DJI system as is doesn’t fit those. You can get it in a 3” frame but the added weight/size makes it much less useful.
Many new pilots are getting into “toothpick” size quads because they are cheap to buy, cheap to run and can be flown anywhere. None of those are going to work with a DJI system.

I seriously doubt ANY of the guys that have reviewed them had they not been given them to use or have. My guess is stew got his on loan and they did not GIVE them to him so he threw a temper tantrum in the video. He really doesnt say crap about why he thinks they are bad for the hobby.

Anyways it dont matter as I am sure Banggood is already reverse engineering and will put their new :poop: copy of them out very soon.

If Banggood do it'll be like the rest of their offerings, absolute garbage 90% of the time.

I haven't seen anything to put me off buying them, the only thing that Byte Frost has going for it (other than price) is the way it handles signal breakup, but I suspect once you get used to the DJIs you'll know when the signal is about to drop out, and who the hell in this day and age goes on a reasonable long flight without some sort of return to home feature? These idiots I've heard of that have lost their quads because the video signal froze half a mile away behind a forest and they instantly disarmed are just that idiots, betaflight has had rudimentary return to home feature for ages now, stick an £8 GPS on one of the arms and fly safe, I've only ever had to use it once (and that was because someone else switched on on my vtx channel, but GPS rescue saved me that day no problem).

As for DJI killing innovation as @poor boy 101 says, I'm afraid to say that if anybody has been holding back innovation in the FPV world over the last five years it's Fatshark, not DJI.

Stu is just being a click bait hypercrite, most people been trapped by Fatshark for years. I've been flying quads three years now, for the first two I had a crap box goggles with a single antenna, this year I upgraded and home brewed a diversity module onto it, but my screen is still a crappy 5" 360p thing. I was going to get some fat sharks for Xmas, but why bother now? Fat shark have fallen way behind.

My answer to that is just solder one inline, it's what I've got on my homebrew box goggles, the guys still laugh at me because it looks like I'm scratching my head when I turn them off.

A guy in our club has a set of fat sharks that are years old, I looked in them once and have to admit was impressed, another guy then bought the latest greatest, and honestly the only way you could tell they were a newer model from the outside was the color, when I tried them, they wasn't much different to the three year old set owned by the other chap.

Aparantly the innovation was new screens, but i was buggered if I could tell.

I suspect going from 360p box googles to DJI FPV might be similar to when I went from a 24" rear projection tv to a 43" 4K one again, I spent ages looking like I was spaced out lol

I bought my Fatsharks second hand, I couldn’t afford new. They are good, I like the comfort but they are not £300 better than my £40 EV800’s.
With more legal BS around the corner next year there’s no way I am investing in digital when I might not be able to fly it without registering etc.

I just got a new set of skyzone 02c's and they are more then good enough for what I do. Being gimped I am not willing to fly any further then I want to walk to get my quad. Thats about 50 meters tops hehe. barring any electronic issues these should outlast my abilities to fly fpv the way I like so unless someone wants to give me something newer or better it aint gonna happen.

I'm going to build a iflight DC3 if I do go down this route and registration comes in, but tbh I have more planes than I do quads (2 quads, 10 planes) so I'm kind of fubar when it comes to the stupid registration, I might have two or three sub-250 things I can play with over winter, but come next summer I'm gonna have to register if the club insists or there isn't some sort of BMFA member exemption/cross registration thing.

My personal hope is it'll go the same way the Porn License & Registration Scheme went earlier this week and be quietly scrapped after two long delays because it too was massively expensive to implement, wouldn't stop those intent on finding the stuff from finding it, and was practically unenforceable. The CAA keep saying registration is mandatory from 30th November but then the Government kept saying the same in relation to online pornography right up until they delayed it, the subsequently scrapped it.

To think it is stupid overall, there is no need for registration, just write into the drone bill that to fly the pilot must have either a PCFO or accredited membership of a one of the hobby organisations and gave public liability insurance , everybody wins, the clubs get more members, the police have their "SS Show Your Papers" powers and can issue fines for someone not registered, you can't even say there's no way for them to verify membership because they will not be able to verify the details of a registered pilot on this CAA scheme other than to confirm the number is valid without a court order anyway lol.

But that would require impossible circumstances:

POLITICIANS WOULD HAVE TO EXERCISE COMMON SENSE!
