Tilting rotor

I know I'm a noob when it comes to rc planes and such and I'm in the process of building my first autogyro. My question is this, why do people build the rotors with a hinge so they can lean left or right? Is it really a necessity or can I just make mine into a elevon type of control?

Because the rotor disc is the wing, you need to change the attitude of the disc to turn. It's going to be like a fixed pitch helicopter in that respect. You use throttle and elevator to affect altitude and pitch changes but unless you have elevons way out on the ends I don't think you will have enough control.
