Tiny trainer power options

Hey Flite Test fans,

I'm looking for opinions on the many choices of power packs and components for the Tiny Trainer. I would just order from Altitude Hobbies but they have been out of stock for a while...these kits are super popular apparently:applause:. I've followed most of the links below the TT details and found quite a few different settups from 5x3 props and high speed motors to 7x3.8 to 8x4 and slow fly speeds.
Has anyone tried FliteTest Mighty Minis Flight Pack - Ultimate from Grayson Hobby or SimonK 10A ESC&RCX 1804 2400KV Motor Gemfan 5030 Propeller For QAV250 from Bang good?
With all these choices I'm curious what works best with the Tiny Trainers.

for what it's worth... Here is some helpful info on Mini quad motor and performance. Credit goes to the contributors to the thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2168392

they are all pretty similar, if you want performance like you see in the FT videos scout out the same motor they are using right now. I believe it's a MT1806 mini quad motor and pick up a 12a ESC to go with it. I've been using the DYS 1806 motors and they have been working out quite well I think they might weigh a gram or two more but they will spin the same 6x3 props as the Emax motor and both motors produce about 460g thrust at about 10.5a. There are lots of clones but check the specs, the Plastic version of the emax motor is only pushing like 250g so that's only half of what you get out of the Emax or DYS motor. stick with the 2280 or 2300 kv motors, you COULD spin bigger props on a lower KV motor but all that thrust will most likely just make more torque roll.

I just ordered the DYS 1806 motor and a plush 12a esc it's less than $20 for the pair (plus shipping and of course you need to solder some connectors too)

Thank you for answering my questions and for the great links. The difference in current draw between the 6030 prop and the 6045 in the first test was really amazing. These choices make a big difference. And there are even more motor choices than I previously knew. Guess I wont be pushing the 'pay' button tonight. Got more research to do.

I just maidened my Tiny Trainer using the Turnigy 1811-2000kv motors on 2S with the turnigy plush 12A esc. The plane seemed anemic at best.. I would definitely try to find something with a little more oomf than these. Those MT1806's are hard to find.... and FT is seemingly and indefinitely out of stock... so, I'm on the lookout for yet another motor. Your DYS-1806's.... lots of power? I'm not looking to do anything 3d or anything... I just don't want to feel like I'm constantly fighting a tip stall and don't want to fall out of the air when I have a slight tailwind. Getting to a safe altitude felt like a chore with the Turnigy 1811-2000kv on a fresh 2S pack.

Let me know, I'd love to pull the trigger on some new motors.

Oh, and I hope my post wasn't negative about the Tiny Trainer. It flew amazing! Just a little underpowered. Very impressed with it's durability too!

Thanks Jes, Mike and Micah for sharing your experience. The Tiny Trainer is so new this feedback really helps fill in the gaps about power choices in particular.
Things I've learned:

All in one power solutions 'aka powerpacks' are quite often out of stock, however...

...you may not want the ones you find, because... ...the Tiny Trainer though it is Mini is not really meant to run a Mighty Mini power pack. Altitude Hobbies mentions this difference in their power pack made just for the TT. They are also out of stock however... ...in another thread some builders have had problems with the engine mount and Flite Test firewall( maybe nbd to a proficient builder but a potential roadblock to a kit builder). I'm sure these will get sorted out in time but in the meanwhile...

I had to research and buy my power solutions from different suppliers which really seems like the best way to go... ...but only with the knowledge gained from more experienced people on the forums.

I also ordered a DYS1806 and a 12a esc but it was from Bang good for cheap so we'll see what I get in the 7 to 20 days for delivery. Here's a link.

300 size Blue Wonders

I just purchased several 300BW from Heads Up. I live at 7220 ft, and it takes a bit more power. These really fit the bill. Plus they are on sale at $10.00. But wait! Only $2.00 shipping!

I went with a hextronic 24g @1500kv on a 1000mah 3s with a gws 8x4hd. Flies great! I could somehow control my roll while inverted with the trainer wing. Never seen a ret do that before! My girlfriends son is enjoying it alot more than her old fogey.

I use a 24gram 1300kv hextronic motor ("blue wonder") with a 9x4.7 prop on a 1000 mah 2s.
The esc i am using is a 20a hobbywing skywalker, it flies great !

without the battery it is weighing 233 gram, battery is mounted on top of the wing to get the CG right.

i am also gonna try a 8x3.8 prop with a 1300mah 3s with this setup.
