If your transmitter is the same brand as your receiver and uses the same protocol it will communicate.
You can get clever radio modules that do all the manufacturers protocols, leaving you to pick the one that matches your receiver.
The most important questions are what do you want to fly/drive with your TX and how much do you want to spend?
