Tubby B-17

First post here…

My son bought me a Tubby B17 last Christmas. Just getting around to it, but having issues. It’s not my first foam board build, having previously built and flown a vtol Explorer.

I’m more of a traditional balsa builder, not too comfortable with foam board. My issue is the tail cone does not match the fuselage center section, it’s too big. By a lot. Can’t figure out what I did wrong, or how to correct. Anyone else seen this? See pictures with tail taped on.

Thanks in advance!

The back of the fuselage box appears to be folded correctly. A folds.
From what I can see, the left and right fuselage tail panels appear to have the correct folds as well.
I can't see anything that looks incorrect as far as build, but obviously the tail panels don't fit the back of the fuse box.

If you can you remove the tail panels, can you post pics inside/outside left and right of the tail panels and pics of the back of the fuse box, please?

AirForge, here’s some photos.

Only thing I can think of is to shorten the boom, but haven’t looked into how much would have to come off to make the circumference match. Also curious as to whether or not the nose pieces will have a similar issue.

I wouldn't do that. It will change flight characteristics. CG and more will be changed.

Before you begin modifying parts, I advise you to contact FT Support. Explain the issue and include all of the pics you posted here. Also include the thread title so they can see it, if needed. It is possible they will send another set of parts or even another kit.

Nothing helpful from support. So I cut 5/8” from the large end, and it now fits. Not sure how to glue it, there’s no way I’ll be able to get it place before hot glue cools. It’s mostly a foam to foam joint, I might just use Titebond…

Will probably just shelve it for a while. Anybody need a kit minus the fuselage ??
