I've been looking with greedy eyes on this Tx since my actual Tx is a crystal one and I don't have a crystal yet... Oh, and I don't know if it has interference...

I'm also looking at this radio replace my Hobbyking HK-T6A. Although it's still serving me well, I hate not being able to adjust the programming when in the field (as it requires a computer).

Anyway, I had a few questions about this radio:

How many mixes can you program with the 9X?
As my current radio only has 3, which all are occupied when I program flaperons.

How reliable is the receiver?
I don't know much about this subject, but my current receivers have a satellite with a second antenna, the 9X's receivers don't. Does this matter (much)? Sorry if this is a silly question

Can you backup/restore model settings or expand the amount of models saved?
With my current radio I have multiple setups saved on my computer as I like to experiment. As the video pointed out, the 9X has 'only' space for 7 models. I reckon that if I get another plane, 7 might not be enough.

Thanks in advance.

New Info on the Turnigy 9X

The Turnigy 9X radio is also called iMax / FlySky 9X.

"remember it's a $40 radio, for that it's great"

It also known as the Eurgle too. We have both a HK 9X and also the Eurgle.

Binding it with an Eurgle 3Ch Receiver

Li-Ion Mod as per RCReviews - Best Mod ever, I get around 10hours battery life!

Also the Trainer Mod - so we can connect two without disconnecting the RF Module

I read somewhere that the 9X had very delicate guts, it is easy to rip off a cable. Keep that in mind while modding it.

Thanks for that link colorex, that link was really informative!

@ bmsweb: those videos are really helpful and interesting, subscribed to your youtube channel. :)

After a quick search I found that apparently not only the 3CH Eurgle (also available as HK-branded version) but also the HK 6ch receiver should work.

I'm starting to lean more and more towards this radio... :)

Great vids!

So, do you have to mod it for the training function to work at all, or do you need a special cable otherwise?

While you were in there, you should have put in a new switch so the trainer mode is more user friendly, so you hold the switch to allow the trainee, and let go to take control.

Thanks for the tut!

I read somewhere in the reviews on HK that you could purchase a jr module for this radio and you would be able to use it for dsm2? Has anyone gotten the T 9X to work with any eflite or parkzone models?

Thanks man, sorry about the late reply but for some reason I haven't been getting reply notifications from the forum. I have no idea whats wrong. In any case yes I had to do the Mod so the trainer function would work without needing to remove the RF Module.

We've even used the trainer function to fly FPV which helped heaps

I really enjoyed the Flite Test review of this Turnigy 9x Tx. I'm really liking the vast array of funtions that this Tx seems to have. I have two curious questions...

1 Josh and Josh said, in the review video, that this Tx does not come with a charger and it operates on AA batteries. That's fine and dandy, but if I dont use rechargeable batteries and the time comes to replace the batteries, will I lose the saved programming? Or, if I were to use rechargeable batteries, is there a charging port on the Tx that a charger can be plugged in?

2 Josh and Josh also mentioned that the 9x Tx has 7 programmable mixes. That would be for mixing elevator with throttle, aux1 with ailerons, etc, etc....right? If that's the case...7 programmable mixes would be outstanding. My current Tx only has 2 programmable mixes. It's rather frustrating.

Thanks to everyone at Flite Test for what you do. You have helped make my rc flying experiences much better.

1) Here is a straight, drop in replacement for the AA battery pack. I use this in mine and it works beautifully! I started using in early July on a full charge and have yet to need to recharge it!

2) 7 mixes sounds about right, but you can upgrade it to er9x software that rivals the programming capabilities of MUCH more expensive radios! And, you can very inexpensively replace the Turnigy module with the FrSky module. Many claim this is one of the most reliable modules in terms of connectivity to the rx. Plus the RXs have built in telemetry.

All of these upgrades can be done over time. The Turnigy 9x is quite good in its stock version. But, it also has the ability to be improved for not a lot of money!
