Made some progress on this project. I got the wing built and quicly realized my fuselage is out of proportion for the mini size I’m looking for. Going to start from scratch on the fuse, a lot narrower and a little bit shorter. However I think the wings look good. I ended up blowing not one but 2 BL Heli 12 amp esc’s with the red bottom motors. Come to find out I had the skrews in too far, feeling like a dummy. However I did have a pair of 30 amps so I’m going to use those which I think will worj better with the 4s I’m planning to use.

Ok last post for the day, I won’t get to work on it for a while so I doubled up the front of the fuse and added a battery tray.

I really like this so far. It looks a little like Dipper from Disney's Planes. I'd love to see a good set of plans, being that it's my favorite plane from the movie.

Unfortunately I don’t usually make plans for my builds, I design as I go. I can provide dimensions if you like if you want to reproduce it. I didnt really have a specific design in mind, just losely following the general lines of the Grumman series of flying boats.

No worries. I have plans for a paper model of Dipper somewhere, and I was thinking of trying to convert them to a large foam board model. What scheme are you going with on yours?

Finally got some time to get some building done. Tail is complete, just need to finish the bottom and install the elevator servo. The plan is to install it in the fuselage and run the linkage up to it. I’ve never done a T-tail so I’m a little concerned about how long the linkage will have to be.

If your worried about linkage strength, I like to use either 1/16 or 3/32 tig filler wire. I weld and I have tubes of the stuff, but its nice and strong. A 36" piece of 3/32 er70s is 11oz. The same piece of 309ss is 13oz, in case you want to rock the stainless steel!

Tig filler wire is a good idea, I ended up using a BBQ skewer because its what I had and I’m short on time! Here is my progress so far. Elevator servo installed and the bottom is now covered. Hopefully I can finish it up tomorrow morning before I drive to Flite Fest! Pontoons, aileron linkages, and a windshield and it should be good to go!

Well it flies but not well. The wing loading seems to be too high and it definitely needs rudder, which I didn’t put on just differential thrust. Its also a bit tail heavy. Going to do some redesigning, but first a simple cub and floats recently purchases at Flite Fest is calling my name!

Sorry I missed you at FF. Really wish we could have met up to chat. That being said, I really like the way it turned out. Perhaps some cleanup and plans for a v2?
