Battery Position Under power Pod or in power pod?

Im confused.... in the beginning of the video Josh mentions putting the battery threw a hatch and places the ESC on the bottom of the power pod. Then a the end of the video he show the battery going on the bottom of the power pod.

Which way is it? What is the best / easiest way to place the battery for the Simple Cub.

I wouldn't recommend unsanded water resistant FB...i used 320 grit. my first plane was unsanded and paint peeled right off

Power Pack Question

Was looking to pick up the Simple Cub, but the B power pack (and the twin version which I would have gotten for the extra couple of bucks) is sold out! Can I use the C power pack? If not, is there any time frame on when they'll get the B packs back in? I'm sure they're out because they sold them all at FF2017.

C Pack Use

You asked if the "C" power pack can be used on the Simple Cub, and the answer is yes. During the taping of the build video, Josh had said that he would be using the "C" power pack motor (and probably the rest of the pack) for that build. Remember that the battery used with the C motor can go as high as 2200 mAh. I too am waiting for my speed build kit to come and then take my time in the building of it. Just like you I too will be using the "C" pack and had to order a new 30 amp ESC.

Both my dad and I had taken lessons in a full scale J3 cub and became hooked. I would like to know where I could buy that color yellow paint (Cub Yellow) anywhere.

Does anyone know when the Simple Cub t-shirts in the yellow color will be available?

1800mah 3s?

Any chance this wouldn't fall out of the sky with some 1800mah 3S batteries? I have six graphenes that I bought for my quad but now I have switched to 4S. I would like to get into planes and was really wanting to build the cub as my beginner plane as that is the full scale that my grandfather flew. I also enjoy building.

I agree. But, there would need to be some mechanism to keep the wing from re-positioning. Otherwise the CG would be all over the place.

I did not post a pic of my fix but for this one, I just glued some tongue depressors longitudinally where the rubber bands cross to keep the foam from bending in that location.

I suspect that my next iteration will have a bunch of mods. I really like this design and the way that it flies. The frame is quite strong as well.

Never had an issue with a banded wing moving unless on an unannounced arrival or slight prang on landing.
Usually just put back in line and fly again.

The Bands do hold well and the friction prevents slippage, unless of course you are not using wide flat bands or they get covered in Glow exhaust, even then wing stays put unless you clip a wing tip.

I always tend to use the white flight bands you can get in different sizes, not normal elastic bands which are too thin normally. The white bands last ages and do not perish if you keep them out of sunlight when stored. http://www.slecuk.com/balsa-wood/Wing-Bands.html

I have had a number of FB designs suffer from wing movement in flight but then I am always testing the limits of maneuverability.

A simple work around the wing movement issue is to fit a couple of wing locating blocks, (made from scrap FB), on the underside of the wing centre section so that when the wing is fitted the blocks JUST fit inside the fuselage and stop the wing from moving when the rubber bands are fitted.

The blocks can be dislodged in the event of a crash as the paper on the blocks is glued to the eing and the paper just separates from the foam.

So simple, perfect wing location every time!

re-maidened the cub this morning and she flew very nicely...still has a little left turn on hand launch ,but nowhere near as much as last time
three or four clicks of trim and she flew hands off ...think i need bigger wheels for landing ,or belly land, as she flips as soon as the wheels touch ground..one broken prop on the first flip over !!! very pleased !!!!

what did you do before re launch?...readjust CG or add a little Thrust angle?

all i did was adjust the control throws and add new rubber bands ...i did not center the servos when i installed ,so the throws were off at the servo's ....i did need a few clicks of right trim at launch this time ,but nowhere near as much as last maiden .

hi Max ....
all i did was adjust the control throws and add new rubber bands ...i did not center the servos when i installed ,so the throws were off at the servo's ....i did need a few clicks of right trim at launch this time ,but nowhere near as much as last maiden .

I had major issues with my cub rolling hard to left on take off.....I've added some thrust angle to the firewall....i maiden-ed mine on floats and when it rolled into the water it fried the ESC and motor. Still waiting for them to get restocked at the store, so i don't know yet what effect it will have.

Hello guys,

I will build this fun plane but as I don't have access to DTFB (living in France) I will print the plan 120% so it fits the thickness of the depron (6mm) without having to modify the plans.

Do you think I can use the following gear on the plane:
Motor: Turnigy D2826-6 2200kV
Prop: 6x4.5
Battery: 2200mAh 3S or 1300mAh 3S

The thing is that I don't want to buy another motor as I have this one available and that combination was working great on the FT Explorer.

I think with the 120% size increase and the 1300mAh 3s that should work just fine! I think the 2200 might be a little too heavy, or at least too heavy for the first couple of flights.
