If I want to run the SB without differential thrust, how would I wire it up? A "Y" connector for the ESC's to into one channel on my RX?

Hey guys quick question, what's the largest battery you would use weight wise? I have 3 1350's at 4 ounces each and a 1500 at 4 ounces, is that to heavy?

You should be fine. I think people have flown them with up to 2200's already.

Hi,
Thank's a lot for this amazing plane. Ijust maiden my super bee, and though it fly straight without any tork effect, I wondered what is the optimum aileron center position?
Aligned with the intrado(bottom wing surface) or extrado(top wing surface)?

Super Bee power pod mod

On my new Super Bee I decided to mod the power pods by extending the length. I didn't like the idea of mounting the ESC's in the wings so they are in the extended pods, and the receiver is in the fuselage. Looking forward to the maiden flight!

I had the same question. After watching a few people's maiden flight videos, it seemed that most people had to give it a lot of up trim for level flight. I'm thinking that this may be due to having the ailerons aligned with the top wing surface.
I'm building mine with aileron neutral set to be aligned with the bottom wing surface. We'll see how it goes.

I'm building mine with the control surfaces from the Bloody Baron, and the build material is Model Plane Foam covered with packing tape.

For the ailerons, I think you want them to stay in line with the wing shape, so a little down. Did you check the build video, I would imagine Josh mentions it, but I didn't watch it that closely yet since I haven't gotten a chance to build one of these yet.

**Verified: Starting at around 34 minute mark, Josh does the push rods with the wing up side down and sets the pushrod length base on the aileron lining up with the wing shape.

Weight may be an issue here...but has anyone figured out a good mount for a Gopro Session for the Super Bee?

Pretty sure a goPro session is going to be too heavy for this plane, unless you mount it directly over the CG. Otherwise I think you would need too much counter weight. If you put the 74g Session on the nose, then you'd need 74more grams of wiehgt towards the tail, that's almost 150g added to a 340g(per spec) plane before you put the battery on it.

I finally got around to cutting out and building my own Super Bee!

I didn't have any thin plywood laying around so I was going to skip the battery tray, but while trying to figure out how to mount the battery I decided I will need to get some ply and add it in. Hoping to maiden it on Monday 3 July. I don't think I will get FPV gear installed until later.

Was watching the build video yesterday and saw the vertical tail reinforcement part, it gave me an idea for mounting a tail FPV camera.

I ran some servo wire with a 1S micro connector on the end under the BBQ skewer. I then ran it through the top of the fuselage and up to the "bind" channel on the receiver, giving me 5VDC from the ESC BEC.

While I am still finishing the build I didn't want to damage the camera by laying the plane upside down, so I haven't fully attached the camera, but the mount is simply a piece of DTFB glued to the camera and then I cut a slot on the bottom to pop it down on the top of the tail.

This is the view that it will have, minus all my garage clutter haha

Can't see you pictures. You can add them with the built in forum tools, you just need to reduce the size to the limits set for the forums.

Stupid Photobucket! I have all my FT forums pictures, as well as another forum, on there. And now they are saying that basically they are useless... great, this will take a little time to figure out

Turns out that PB decided to screw over all of there users...not sure how long it will take me to figure out how to fix this.

I'm in the early stages of my FT Super Bee build. Pieces are cut, wing is almost glued, and a few other little things. Still need to get a receiver, battery, and props. I'll tackle some more on it tomorrow. Here's a little video I have on it...

the dive off the start might also be prop stall due to lack of airflow. my calcs (take them for what they are) show a prop stall thrust of 212g and a needed speed of 12.6mph before it disappears (assuming you're using the recommended prop). so, if your plane weighs the advertised 340g it's gonna be a little down on power. so on launch don't add more throttle, just throw it a little quicker. just don't throw it into the ground! ;)

i also kinda question the 5x4x3 as being the best prop. coolest maybe, best maybe not? i will keep looking and thinking. really want to build a 2 engine thrust diff airplane and can't decide if the cruiser sitting in the box in the corner waiting to be built, or a scratch build super bee is the one to be.

laters,

jason ;)

My SuperBee Build... with 3D printed FPV camera nose

See attached images of my build. I also included the link for the 3D printed FPV camera nose for the RunCam Swift, HS1177, or other similar type camera.

The 3D printed mount is friction fit. I however did not want to rely only on friction at speed so I ran a small bead of hot glue along the top to form a hinge and a small bead along the bottom trailing edge of the mount. Works perfect.

I was lucky enough to get a pre-production kit with electronics from Josh Bixler at Flite Fest 2016. I did not have time to build the kit at Flite Fest, but I did get it built shortly after I got back home. I brought the finished plane to AirVenture 2016 in Oshkosh and had Josh maiden it. It flew great and some of the content that was shot while we were there made it into the Oshkosh 2016 recap and Super Bee episodes. That plane was pretty special to me for all those reasons. That said, the ESC's that came with it were only 20 amp bullets and Josh later changed the spec to 30 amps for the RS2205 2300 kv "red bottoms" that it came with. I needed to unleash the full potential of this beast, and so, I reluctantly decommissioned my pre-production Super Bee.

I ordered the 30 amp bullet ESC's and a new pair of red bottoms for the new build. Keegan got the old red bottoms (only slightly used) and the 20 amp bullets for his Super Bee build (still pretty fast). I also ordered some RaceKraft 5051 triblades to really push the envelope (thanks for the suggestion JohnRambozo). To complete the high performance version I ordered a couple Graphene G7 4S 1300 mAh 90C batteries. I'm very pleased with the results. The new Bee was maidened at FFE17, and will hopefully be flown by Bixler at Oshkosh in a little over a week!
