Help! Upgrading Transmitter

Hey guys, for sometime now I have been wanting to upgrade my Flysky FS-I6x to a better radio....Mainly because I want the range and versatility of ELRS..That being said I have be thinking of the Radiomaster TX16 but that's a lot of money for a transmitter and I was wondering if any of you have used the radiomaster TX12...I have tried the pocket but it was kinda small for my hands..

I plan on using this radio for all my planes and always use rates expo and probably flaps in the future, I will also use this for 5" drones and hopefully someday a long range 7" drone so I will need GPS RTH, Position Hold, WP Mission, ARM, Modes ect....Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks in advance,

- Pup

The Pocket is too basic anyway. It`s ok for simple flying, but for FPV and beyond, you will want the bells and whistles. I would just keep an eye on Farcebook marketplace, craigslist, and ebay till you find what you really want at a reasonable price. people sell stuff on rcgroups.com too.

Rule #1 on getting a good price on used stuff. Don`t be in a rush. Wait for it to come to you. I got my MKII for less than a MKI when they were both still available new. Guy had bought it to "play games" and then didn't use it much. Just wanted to unload it. Barely used......

Yeah, I kinda just want to go for the TX16...But what do you call cheap? I can't seem to find any really under $200......

I’ve seen them from $100-150. Recent sales on eBay show a bunch that have recently gone for around $150, and I can’t tell if those are mk1 or mk2. I happened to get a couple really cheap with a bunch of stuff that I bought from a guy getting out of the hobby. You could also keep an eye out for Jumper T18s, which are virtually identical except without the touchscreen.

I am not much of a touch screen guy but times it is handy, me personally really like the colored screen and the size of it on the TX16s.

How much to spend is a personal choice. Relative to the other options, the Tx16 is cheap. Far better value than anything else. Now do you need all of the features of the Tx16, only you can answer that. I recently upgraded from the Boxer to the Tx16. The Boxer did everything I wanted except one thing. The telemetry feedback was too limited. The Tx16's larger color screen gives me far better feedback for FPV. That alone is worth the price for me. I fly FPV with a screen, I can't get my eyes to focus with goggles. With someone flying under the goggles then the better screen is of limited value.

For me, the biggest advantage of the big color screen is that you can set up models faster. EdgeTX just has a nicer interface in the color screens. That said, after I’m set up, it doesn’t matter much in flight. Since I have so many models, it’s worth it for me.

The only thing that I’d prefer in a different radio would be for it to be slightly smaller in my hands. It’s a bit large. The feel of the radio is a hard thing to quantify, so it would be worth holding one and making sure that you like it.

I have pretty big hands so I don't think that will be a problem (y)

Now that's more what I am talking about!😂
Yeah, there was a hobby store that was selling the TX16 (I think it was the MKII's) for $150 for regular and $175 for the CF addition last week on eBay (They were "open box" returns)...Unfortunately I was to late...

Yeah, I was thinking of that being that I use goggles but I also plan to use it on my airplanes, and if I am going to buy and upgrade, I would rather do it once then twice.

My TX16s is one of the early models and the gimbals are not the best I find I need to recalibrate more often then I should have to with weather changes. My old DX9 very seldom do the sticks drift.

I had to recalibrate mine a few times.... but lately they have been doing good. It probably knows the MKII will take it's place should it be too cumbersome.

Good to know (y) Though either way, they are probably better than my FlySky ones!
