Using Colored Packing Tape for Foamboard Planes instead of Paint?

Love my packing tape covered planes. Adds colour, strength and water resistance. Only done it on the FT-22 and mini FT-22 so far. Pietenpol may be the first real plane i try this with next.

Do you remove paper before using tape or tape over paper?
Same here - I keep the paper for structural reasons. The paper as a great deal of rigidity and tensile strength the foam simply doesn't have on it's own.
as we all know, the paper looses the stiffness and tensile strength when water is added.
I have accidentally ordered an adverse amount of Scotchgard waterproofing spray (4 bottles- I really needed 1 1/2 for gear and a test plane) I was going to test this on a few planes... one with tape, one with out, one before then taped.

I used colored packing tape and clear for reinforcements. This was DTFB woth the outer paper peeled from the fuse and then covered with shelf liner adhesive clear film. Waterproof and indestructible (except when my "dumb thumbs" make an appearance).
