It will depend on the transmitter. Most DSM2 transmitters will require a bind plug for the receiver. You plug the battery in with the bind plug in the bind slot and then turn on your transmitter while holding the bind switch.

You bind (sync) a Transmitter (Tx) and a Reciever (Rx). The Rx goes in the plane and all of your inputs (servos, ESC, lights, etc.) plug into the Rx.

Yes normally you insert a bind plug to where it says on the manual most often the receiver then you push some buttons on you transmitter and it will bind the process should be outlined in the manual of your transmitter
