Hi I'm Brian I'm brand new to RC flight. it's is kind of an experiment for me I will explain below. but for my birthday my brother got me a drone the predator from UDI R/c it's ok just your typical out of the box flying drone. so of course I took it apart to make it better and well no room for improvement.

so any way to the experiment part. so I read 2 studies that were done and they're pretty much my 2 favorite because the first one is about experts to amateurs and the 2nd about how we learn.

the first study they took professional pool players and paired them up with amateur so the professional had the pool que and the amateur would tell the pro what they basically wanted to happen. "I want you to hit the 3 ball in this pocket then come off this rail and park the ball in this area." and the pro would try to accomplish that. well it turns our the professional couldn't preform the task most of the time. which comes down to knowledge of what your trying to do.

the second study which this will mostly be about. they took 20 individuals who never played golf before 10 of them had lessons like a normal person would. the other 10 they would sit in side in a comfy chair, relax, and close their eyes while 2 people would instruct them. the first person would help them imagine the environment. the second person would teach them to play golf. in the end when the 2nd group went to play golf for the first time they were nearly as good at the 1st group.

I've said for the last 5 or so years sense I read this study I wanted to try this study how to do something then after a time go out and try. but I've never could really find something I haven't really done. till now

so anyway I've been flying the rc-air sim from the Microsoft store everyday for the last week and a half. I built 2 foam board models so far I think I'm gonna build at least 1 more. just because I feel I've gotten better a building on the 2nd one and the 3rd will be even better which will give me the best chance to fly. my plan is this weekend to go out and for the first time fly a model rc airplane.

Welcome to the FliteTest forums, Potter. :)

This is the kind of place where we never fail, we just learn another way how to not build something. :)

Your experimentation will fit in just fine here.

I recommend you shoot video of the maiden voyage from a hat cam or other HD video source. This way if your plane doesn't fly well or doesn't fly at all, we can see what happened and suggest fixes. Of course, if your maiden voyage flies great we can all cheer with you!

Hi Potter,
Thank you for the intro and letting us know your plans.

I agree with Cranny. A video can be very helpful for you to show how things went and us to recommend changes if things didn't go so well.

Do you know which of your planes you will fly first? Do you have pix?

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum! Interesting studies. The RC sim can help tremendously, as long as your airplane is set up correctly. Good luck with your first flight! Let us know how it goes.

so it's been nearly 2 years I honestly forgot I posted this soon after I posted it typical behavior of mine. anyway let me update anyone who chooses to listen. my first plane was a simple soarer. with amazons cheapest electronics. so first lesson if you want to succeed don't buy stuff that doesn't work properly. basically the motor was burning up the esc and I failed and failed and failed. not in flight just equipment. so I finally started getting some planes up in the air I have made other posts about these. then I bought the Phoenix 2000 I really liked this plane and it was really my successful plane I probably had over 2 hours of flight time on it. then one day I let my brother fly it straight through these rails on the playground which ripped off the wings and I tried to glue them back together but had problems with it ever sense. then for my birthday 2018 my son bought me a Viggen with my wifes over sight. back when they said this plane was expert build and flight anyway with confidence I built it with a prop. and all it would do is turn to the left in small circles I suppose it was from angle of the thrust. but I put that away after 5 or 6 different attempt. then I opened up a brick and mortar shop and been busy with that. so fast forward to present for my birthday my wife asked me what plane do you want. and I said the simple storch… see it has the word simple in it lol. just finished building and painting it. I was pretty confident that my first flight would go with out a hitch today then loading it in to my car I would normally use my van for this I ripped the elevator and had to repair it. good news tho my go pro was at my shop so maybe this was the flite test gods wanting me to use the head mount to finally record the video. mind you have have about 2-3 hours of flight time on rc airplanes and that was a year ago. I was able to crash a $10 foam glider in the telephone wires and crash I mean land a frankinplane into my favorite tree. but my wife asked me as I was building the storch why do you like this building something for 6 hours to fly for 2 min. I think her experience of me flying was the beginning and I'm hoping my experience from watching FT and flying has taught me something and I retained that information to have a great flight tomorrow baring weather. 46 degrees actually doesn't look too good today was 18 this way I know the ground would be frozen. anyway I wish I could have documented this experience better but that honestly isn't my style
