Viggen V2- EDF power - do your really need 6S?

Hi guys
I've been thinking about getting the Viggen V2 kit, and note there is an excellent supplemental article that goes along with the build video.
The article is here: https://www.flitetest.com/articles/ft-viggen-v2-build-supplemental

Okay - one thing I'm confused about is power. The prototype video has the EDF running on 4S and speed gun clocks 80mph!
Why then doe the supplemental article spec say 6S as per the below? How much power is really necessary? - I was hoping to run a decent 4S battery for better flight time. Thoughts? Thanks John

I prefer the 6s. The 4s just seems to lack power, but it will work okay and save you a little money on ESC. If you do go 4s, make sure you get a 4s EDF and not a 6s one. Not sure what your flight experience is too, but this is not a good first plane either. That's just my opinion and I do believe that "overkill is underrated," so you might keep that in mind too.:)

Hi Rick
Flight experience is mainly other FT planes - (Storch / Spitfire / Tutor / Mustang / P40) - so looking for first EDF experience. Had 30 years in RC and only 3 to 4 in RC planes as time permits. Cheers J

You should have no problem with the Viggen either way then.

I did nitro RC cars for a few years about 30 years ago than got out of them. Stumbled on Youtube Flite Test by chance in 2019 and been hooked on planes ever since. It even got me back into cars too, but all electric now.

I did scale ships and submarines for the last 30 yrs - and still do the subs in Olympic pools a few times a year. Most of these were scratch built or semi-kits with scratch building. I was always put off flying by the cost of inevitable crashing, that was until I found FT. I enjoy building too, so FT has been a good fit for me into flying.

Not much water where I live. Just cactus and tumbleweeds. But i can pretty much cross the street with plenty of places to fly, and a dirt track on the side of my house we made for the RC cars. So no complaints here.
