I have been flying for a long time and finally have decided to make the leap to FPV. I have been researching FPV for weeks and am struggling to identify the best setup for me. Here is what I want to do and am looking for advice:
-short/medium range flights around trees/buildings
-will be using a scratch built tricopter w/ a 4s battery and would ideally power the FPV tx off the same battery
-currently using a spektrum dx6i tx
-want to fly with my brother (and he will be using the same FPV kit I settle on)
-live in Oregon and not quite familiar with local law (want to avoid needing a HAM license or anything crazy)
I am not asking too much right? So here are some questions:
-Seems like 1.3 GHz might be the best frequency for me. Will go through objects I want to fly around and won't interfere with cell towers. Is this frequency safe to use in the USA? Anything I should be cautioned about?
-I have heard that this frequency is bad with spektrum products and that a filter is needed. Any recommendations? I was looking at this video TX from readymaderc and noticed that it said no issues with 2.4 GHz transmitters: http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_30_38&products_id=1019
-Does anyone here use a step down so they can power their video TX off a 4s battery? Was looking at this UBEC and didn't know if it was a good idea: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18788__12v_4_5a_ubec_2_5s_lipoly_7_2_21v_.html
-What should I use so that my brother and I can fly together? He also has a dx6i and I would hate for our video to interfere with each other.
And once again looking for any recommendations on what to use. Seems like there should be quite a few others in this same camp, and I am curious to hear what you guys ended up using.
