What Did You Fly Today

FT MS A-10. Third pack in, a Zippy 4s, 2700 mAh, the pack had a cell explode and smoke was pouring out. I managed to get it back on the ground, put out the fire…

It looked so cool with smoke streaming- I wish I had video going.

This crappy Zippy LIPO had only about 10 cycles, all between 4.2v and never below 3.7v per cell.

What was the set up you used to power it(edf's or props)? How many C's for the battery?

Looked again at pic, finally noticed those clear props in back. Those are sure stealth.
Looking if anyone has used 64 EDF's and a video to show the position and angles of the thrust to make it successful. Does your setup have the motors tipped down or up? I have a different plan than Ft's.

FT uses a precut wood frame to hold the motors with a slight "nose up" thrust angle on the twin quad motors.

Built a quick lil Versa Wing and flew it today
I need to try it on 4s but it's nice and gentle on 3s. Glides very nicely.

Flew the camouflaged FT Spitfire in less-than-perfect conditions today - winds supposedly up at 16mph, but it was higher than that, I'm sure!

Two or three circuits before calling it a day. One of the braces under the Spit's tailplane came adrift so needed a repair back at base.

I got to maiden my Slow Flyer this morning.

The first flight was very short.

My second attempt wasn't much longer

https://youtube.com/shorts/5gRunkBUI4s?feature=share

The third run went a good bit better. I could not seem to trim out the tendency to turn left. I tried in subtrim settings and with the on the fly trim tab. I was always fighting that left turn.

The CG seemed good, just the slightest nose heavy, but it would nose up drastically with the slightest throttle increase. I'm sure this a case of "I don't know what I don't know".

The last flight ended badly and snapped the wing.

I should be able to fix it and try to figure out why it pulls left and noses up. Maybe it just needs a little more nose weight or a little les up thrust on the motor mount. The power pod has a good bit right thrust and up built in. That's why I was surprised when it wanted to turn left so badly.

I still have yet to really sort out my workshop since the move, but I managed to leave this one's battery out of the boxes. Took it for flight 'cause I thought it'd look nice in this field. I'll get the footage edited at some point. Haven't got my computer set up yet.

I fixed the damage to the Slow Flyer and coated it with Minwax. The grass was really wet yesterday and I expected it to be wet this morning as well.

I got several short flights in this morning before finding the tree line the hard way(recovered with minimal damage). I still can't get the trim right.

I added a little down thrust with a washer behind the top of the motor and ended up moving the battery back a little as it was actually a little too nose heavy. That really help with the nosing up with the throttle. It still likes to pitch up hard with fast throttle increase, but it's not nearly as drastic or sensitive as it was.

Nothing seems to help with the pull to the left. Is it likely that is a flaw in the wing rather than a rudder trim thing? The wing and H Stab are parallel and the V stab is square to the H stab. The wing looks, to me like its as symmetrical as possible and centered.

I haven't built this plane but I'm assuming it doesn't have ailerons. Things to try - even more down thrust. Add some right thrust. (It could be your firewall is off a little causing it to go left). It's hard to tell from the video if the wing/plane is rolling to the left around its axis, which would be caused by a warped wing - which is what you asked in your post. If the plane is rolling to the left around its axis then it could be a warped wing. To correct this you would add a trim tab to the the left wing and move it to a slight down trim - to act like an aileron. It looks tail heavy to me - the indication is the porpoising - but I'm just looking at the video. The first thing to try is the thrust line adjustments.

That looks great. I'd like to build one. How do you access the battery compartment?

It's 3 channel. It does not look to me like it's rolling, more yaw. I could be wrong of course, it's not like I have a lot of experience. The porposing was most likely me over controlling. I had the rates really low yesterday and increased them a good bit today to see if it helped. I do think 90% of my problems are in the brain to radio interface.

Thanks for the input. I'll likely fix the damage(minor) and try again this afternoon.

Through a hatch on the back. :)

It's the RC Powers Su-35 V5. Very fun one on 4S and 4x4 roll. I have built the fuselage a little narrower than the plans, so it's a bit cosy in there. Yesterday's flight was on 3S, 'cause the motor gets hot on 4S due to poor airflow back there (added a reinforcing strut, but it restricts the flow). 4S is kind of a cold weather thing for this plane.
