What Did You Fly Today

Took the Eachine minis out last night and good some nice shots to add to the pile of stuff I need to edit.

Also took the Bipe out this evening to the same field I flew the Su-35 in the other day. No video of that one though - need to edit the rest first. :)

took a long drive today making a bunch of stops (coffee, Lego store, Lehman's). grabbing a late lunch now in Alliance at A-Town burgers and brews... (this has a purpose) and ending the trip for an evening fly at Edgewater:) Let's see if I remember to take some pics 😆

I got the Slow Flyer trimmed out and had a pretty good flight this morning. I ended up cutting in some flaps to trim out the left roll.

A couple sloppy loops around the 3:50 mark:

One of the little ones did try to eat the Slow Guy this morning. This was before I got it trimmed right and flying on a 2S 650 LiPo. Not enough power to pull out when I messed up the last turn. No damage though. The first vid is 3 or 4 flights later on 4S battery.

It was a little too windy out there today, 15-20 kmh, the jets handled no probs, maidened the scout and it was fine, the blender and baron i wasn't able to get them dialed in and the fogey didn't stand a chance, the wind just took it away. The fogey was done at 135%, will need to wait for a calmer day so i can dial them all in. Beware of close encounters of the earth kind, keep em flying people.

Had another nice flight with the Slow Flyer. This was on a 2S battery and I was playing around with the throttle, looking for the sweet spot. I somehow managed a low altitude hammerhead stall and never recovered from it. This is going to require a new power pod at the least. I may just start over and see if I can do a better job on the wing and get it a little more symmetrical. It annoys me that I had to cut flaps to trim the roll.

Second flight this morning was with my Tiny Trainer. I built this from an old FT SBK I bought from a forum member(don't remember who). The fuse has been rebuilt from new DTFB but the sport wing iwas still the original aged/yellowed FT foam.

I wasn't expecting the sport wing to actually be faster than the 3 channel wing. It was a rocket! Unfortunately, the wing folded right away. You can't see it in the video, but I watched it fold the first time a pulled up in turn. So i just cut the throttle and glided it in. If I'd had 10 more feet of grass, it would have been a nice landing!

I'll cut a new sport wing today sometime and add a BBQ skewer reinforcement.

Did you use the new plans that I uploaded for the slowflyer? Or the @sundown57 's original plans?

Awesome, did it go together well? Any hiccups?

Nothing major. I edited the plans to generate G Code for my needle cutter. I missed a couple duplicate lines and ended up cutting off one of the paper flanges on the top nose panel. Easy to fix. If I'd been cutting by hand, this would not have been any issue at all. I did cut in a hatch for electronics access. It's easy enough to do that I don't think I'd bother editing the plans for it.

I am considering cutting 4 extra wing struts and making the wing removable.

Also for the removable wing I would just glue it to the fuse, then cut away the the tops of the fuse. And add some alignment tabs. Like on the ft spitfire

Red Bull Stick (FT Simple Stick). This is one of my daily bashers. With a Potenza 10 1400kv, it is crazy overpowered.

Nano Flerken. It took me several different power and battery combos to make this flyable. The current combination of Emax RS1606 3000kv and 4s 650 mAh makes the Nano Flerken far more stable if you fly it like a jet (i.e. lots of speed with very low rates and lots of expo). It is actually fun to fly now.

The full-sized Flerken and the Nano Flerken are very CG sensitive, and I think the official CG on the Nano is too far back. Balancing from just in front of the wing-root is far better. No idea how fast it is, but she seems every bit as fast as my Arrows Viper (I run on 4s). The airflow around the motor is blocked by the large fuse, and the ESC well-taxed, so I recommend no less than 25 amp ESC. I have a 30 amp in this version.

My Su-35 V5 is so cramped inside that its 50a ESC got hot enough to melt off the shrink wrap it came in, just spinning a 6x4x4 with a 2200kv on 3S. Banggood sell little heatsinks which are perfectly sized for this ESC so I got some, stuck one on to the ESC, then cut a hole in the access hatch so it could get lots of airflow and now it doesn't get hot even on 4S.

Not sure what I can do about the motor getting hot though. For now I'm just relegating 4S flights for autumn and winter only.
