when do i need to recalibrate my ESCs?

So i put together a new quad today with new motors and props but old escs. and honestly it flew awful. i barely had any control at all. with was super erratic and and in stable. also i could barely decent with out the motors turning off completely.. Does this seem like esc calibration issue? or is it something bad in my flip 1.5? (i plugged that in and the gyros seemed ok)

really you shouldn't need to recalibrate an ESC until you change the transmitter you are using them with. Try calibrating them all again anyway, it could be that one calibrated "differently" and just isn't matched to the others for some reason, especially if it's all electronics that come from another previous build. Maybe there is an ESC that wasn's calibrated at all in the mix... maybe one you used to use with an older transmitter and you didn't calibrate it to a newer one you are now using or something like that...

When you calibrate an ESC, what you are doing is telling the ESC where the end points of the throttle stick are on your transmitter, and this is something that can vary from one transmitter to another, so this is when you recalibrate, when you change the transmitter.

ok. thats kinda what i was think... It must be a binding issue then with my dx6i to my cheap orange rx

I think if it were to be a binding issue then you wouldn't be getting any signal through...

well what do you think then? I've had some issues with this rx before where it would fly weird but if i rebinded it. it would fly fine again. (totally forgot about this until this morning)

Could be too much vibrations getting to the flight controller. Did you try balancing the props, motors, and then dynamically balancing them together?

well it flys great now. But all i did was recalibrate the escs and rebind the rx.
I got the fpv gear on it then, and the video is pretty darn steady considering i usually mount straight to the frame.

honestly, i think this is a testament to to the issues that can come from the orange rx... Like i said, i've had some issues with this before where the quad will fly like crap, i'll bring it in rebind it, and it will fly great... i might need to bring this to the RC forum.
