Where to Fly?

I wasn't sure what the best section was for a question like this...

I'm about to maiden my first plane and i'm having trouble thinking of places to fly. There is a football field and a number of large fields around my house, but i live about a half mile from a small airport, so I don't want to fly there. There are a number of club fields around the area, but i've not joined any clubs yet. Is it ok to fly in parks? I hear a lot of references to 'park flyers' and i see a lot of YouTube videos of people flying in parks...is that ok?

take note at the clubs, and go from there , if you step outside to a park, try following what you learned at the club. enjoy

I asked a local farmer whom I used to work for as a kid, if I could fly over his fields. He thought that would be fun and I've been using his farm ever since. Make sure you ask permission and when you crash, be respectful of his crop.

Unfortunately, I would recommend against flying near the field. You'd be taking your chances. The rule is now 5 miles. At uncontrolled fields there is no requirement that a plane have two-way communications, so you can't even listen in on an aircraft-band radio receiver to hear announcements from inbound aircraft. The full-scale planes can appear all of a sudden.

how I go about it is if I hear noise I am within feet of the ground. What follows noise is an object.

If I hear a person I keep my craft 25 ft away from them. more or less follow some simple rules at

Put it to good use
