Help! Which kit to buy from Aliexpress ?

Hello,

I want to buy a kit from Aliexpress and I've found many kits there, kits that have most of the parts needed, kits are almost full parts needed and others contain only frame and maybe ESC or motors ... etc.

Aspects I'm considering for the purchase:

1. Which one should I buy ? The best value because there are a lot of options on Aliexpress, and I don't know which one is the best for the money.
2. The type of parts, brand and electrical specifications of the parts.
3. The type of controller, if not included which one should I buy?
4. Type, brand of the motors.
5. Type of propellers, bi or tri.
6. ESC: 20A or 30A .. etc.
7. Other things I should consider.

Kits that attracted me:

1. This one almost have all the parts for $139.
QAV250-Carbon-Fiber-Mini-250-FPV-Quadcopter

2. This one goes from $133 to $140 for options I don't know about, so I need a help to know which one should I buy.
ZMR250-250-carbon-fiber-quadcopter

3. I like this one, has pretty much everything with the FPV goggles
120mm-Mini-F3-OSD-2S-RC-FPV-Racing-Drone-Quadcopter

4. Everything without goggles
GX210-CC3D-Naze32-F3-Flight-Controller-FPV-RTF-with-700TVL-Camera-40CH-VTX-Quadcopter

5. Everything without camera and goggles
ZMR250-QAV250-with-3mm-arm-Quadcopter

6. Everything, it's 85mm for $121 with shipping, I guess this price is nice because of size is small
Mantis85-85mm-5-8G-FPV-Micro-Racing-Drone-Quadcopter

Any ideas ??

I started to focus on the length of the frame, I think it's nice be have the range of 210mm to 230mm, do you agree. But these models don't have goggles most the time.

Thanks guys for any help,

I would say out of those choices number 3 and 6 are the best. All the others come with flight controllers that are no longer supported bt betaflight.

Even those two choices are out of date being the best of the 6 you presented.

What I would suggest since you are looking to build is research newer gear. Look for sales on more up to date equipment and pick up what you decided to build a few parts at a time.

Nothing in the rules say it all has to be bought at once.

OK, thank you so much for the answer.

I'm just afraid if I go the customized route, then the price would go up because maybe I would choose things that are relatively more expensive than others because of the brand.

But my idea about building the drone would be built on basic aspects; like:
1. Frame size: should I go on the sizes from 100-150mm or 200-230mm ?
2. Motors: what numbers of kv should I choose ?
3. ESC: which amperes should I choose? 20A, 30A or the things that come with 's'?
4. Propellers: I guess tri are the best.
5. Battery: Hmm I'm not sure, but I guess it should be something 5400mA/h
6. The controller: I don't know what to choose.
7. Camera: no idea
8. Goggles: also no idea
9. What else ..

It's clear that I really don't have much detailed information or idea about what I want. I would appreciate it if you help me with things that are recommended.

Thanks,

Most of your questions are going to be related to budget and personal choice. There is no bargain basement way into larger FPV quads. Most of the kits on common auction or buy sites are garbage IMO, they usually have stuff that’s much harder to st up since nobody uses it anymore and if you build your own you can choose what’s important to you and spend your money there. For example I knew my frame was likely to get trashed so I got a $12 QAV250 clone rather than a $40 frame that was basically the same but from a quad specialist.
Some specialist Quad stores do very good kits, often with detailed build help, as well as good ready built, pre tuned quads.
By far the cheapest way to try FPV is still a whoop sized set up like the Eachine 013 with a set of cheap box goggles.
If you still want something bigger and can’t find what you want from reputable FPV suppliers then there’s lots of build videos on YouTube. Some are better than others. Here’s an example one which includes a full parts list etc.

Have a look through some like that then come back and ask again if you are unsure. As a general rule you want to avoid F3, CCD32 or Naze32 based flight controllers as Betaflight no longer supports them and their use indicates a kit that cuts cost in all the wrong places.

DO NOT buy any parts until you are set on your size, motors etc as you will waste money. Nobody flies 5400mah batteries on mini quads.
Goggles can likewise be a minefield, as can transmitter (TX) choice. Both are potentially very expensive and both can make or break your flying experience.
Also if possible get some sim time in once you get a TX. I would buy something like a QX7 TX or second hand Taranis then fly sim for a while whilst you save for the quad and goggles. Sim works and is cheaper to crash in. I had to learn without it and it’s much harder.

First you must decide what you want to do with your quad.

Then piloting skills come in to play. Experienced pilot go mid to high end gear. New pilot go mid level gear on the smaller size range. Lighter is better to reduce damage.

Your radio is your most important item. DONT skimp unless you want to upgrade several times in your flight career.

Goggles are bottom of the list but still an important long term choice.

Things I have learned... cheap frames = cheap carbon= more harmonic vibrations to deal with.

Fc's are all pretty stable at f4 or newer. Look more for features you want then brand names.

Motors and esc's get matched to what you want to do with your quad.

Again I suggest getting decent parts and not going the cheap route. Many will argue but fact is you will spend more time flying then repairing and replacing. Saves far more money down the road then early savings on the build.

Get back to us what you want the build to do, what your skill level is for building, general budget, and what you must have now vs buying into it all in stages.

I will recommend going with the 210-230mm frame size. These will allow you to fly 5 inch props, which are the most common size. You’ll have many more options to fly with and try out, and WHEN you break props, they’re a LOT easier to find online and at local hobby shops than the 3 inch props you might need for the smaller frame.

As for the rest of the parts, try to buy name brands. Look at companies like Rotor Riot and GetFPV. Rotor Riot just announced a new warranty policy that if you screw up the equipment through bad soldering, they’ll replace it. It might be a little more expensive, but that sort of customer service is awesome.

Thank you so much for the tips and the information and the recommendations. What to do and what to avoid ! That's so important as things like specific brand or type of frame can actually provide a different flight experience !

What's the sim time ? I actually didn't get that. Do you mean simulation ? but where, on real time with the drone tied to something to avoid breaking it or simulation with PC serial debugger ?

OK, then I should choose something that is mid in price and reasonable price.

Goggles are bottom of the list but still an important long term choice.
OK, I just need to leave that later. Or buy one if I have left money.

Things I have learned... cheap frames = cheap carbon= more harmonic vibrations to deal with.

For now I have no idea what that supposed to mean, but I should discover that later :)

Motors and esc's get matched to what you want to do with your quad.
I'm not sure exactly what should I get, but I think like:
1. ESC: should be something like 20A to get mid performance and not to draw all the battery power.
2. Motors: I think 2300kv to 2700kv, but I think that number should match the battery size and then flight time. Higher number = higher power .. I guess !

Again I suggest getting decent parts and not going the cheap route. Many will argue but fact is you will spend more time flying then repairing and replacing. Saves far more money down the road then early savings on the build.
OK, got that.

Which one to get ? there are different ones on Aliexpress but I don't know what to get. FLYSKY seem to be a popular one among the kits they offer. I thought it's like is just enough to do the job.

That's nice ...

The important thing in this point is very important, but I don't know what brands on Aliexpress !

The second thing, is that I live in Saudi Arabia, so buying something for me should be one time.

The things I remember I returned to their sellers were things that are expensive + $300 and the return costed me like $50 for each unit. After that lesson I learned to buy only one time :)

OK guys here are my rough selections, I really did this selection as I'm going to work.

But before getting into the parts, maybe Aliexpress isn't the source to buy from. So it's my first try:

1. Frame:
Chameleon-FPV-Frame-220-220mm $30
This one has a high price, so I thought it's a good one, also regarding that with this price is should be a good quality that may reduce the "harmonic vibrations". Also it has a good base for the camera.

2. Motors:
2018-New-Arrival-4X-Racerstar-Racing-Edition-2306-BR2306S-2400KV $28
4PCS-Racerstar-Racing-Edition-2205-BR2205-2300KV $25

I think all these motors are in the mid range and performance, I've put EMAX motors but I removed them because they are $60.

3. ESCs:
Best-Deal-4PCS-lot-Racerstar-RS30A-Lite-30A $27 - I think these are clone of the original
4PCS-Original-Racerstar-RS30A-V2-30A $42 - I think these are the original
I picked these randomly.

4. Flight controller:
Holybro-Kakute-F4-V2-STM32F405-Flight-Controller $30 - the dude in the youtube video mentioned the F4 FC so I thought they are cool

5. Radio controller:
Flysky-FS-T6-6CH-2-4G-LCD-Transmitter-R6B-Receiver-Digital-Radio-System-for-RC-Helicopter $36 - I think this one for helicopters. It won't work with a quad, right?
Flysky-FS-i6-FS-I6-2-4G-6CH-AFHDS-RC-Transmitter-Controller $36-47

Radio controllers are a bit tricky to me, I don't have much experience about them.

6. Propeller:
10pair-lot-KINGKONG-5040-5045-5050-3-blades-Propellers-For-QAV250 $7.50
I think these are good, they are 5045, 20pcs

7. Battery:
For batteries, I don't know what to choose, 1500, 1300 or 1800 mAh. This dude has a lot of batteries and the ones he actually recommending are the Infinity 550mAh. These are infinity:
Infinity-850mAh-40C-85C-3S-4S-11-1V-14-8V-LiPo-Battery - 3s is $7.90, 4s is $13.20 so I don't know what's the difference between 3s and 4s. + $4.86 shipping.

There are other versions, 4200, 450, 550, 1500. So what to choose?

8. Camera:
Foxeer-Falkor-1200TVL-Mini-Full-Size-Camera $34
I found this on a youtube video, so I thought it's a good one.

.......... so that all could cost me like $210. That's maybe a pretty high number for my starting, but if it's worth it to save me of buying things again or finding that certain parts need an improvement or not working pretty well.

==================================================================================================================
==================================================================================================================

I'm following budget builds on YouTube:
1. This video is about $99 seriously fast drone!
But that's without the radio controller, I guess I would find one with a decent price .. like $30 - 40.
2. How to Build a budget FPV Drone Racing Quadcopter + Giveaway // Racerstar StarF3S, XT210
This dude is using the StarF3S all in one FC & ESC.

Sim= Simulator, a good one, which will help you fly better and crash less in the real world.
Flight Controller- The Holybro one is very good, but you can get nearly as good for $22-25 if you want to save a bit.
Motors- 2306 2400kv I had those, they were OK, I have T Motor LF40’s now, which are better and on sale for not much more than the racerstars. My Racerstars got me flying and were good for learning.
ESC’s, again not bad but there are better ones for similar money. Don’t know how “noisy” those are, check out Albert Kim tests for that.
Battery- for a 5” you want a 1300mah 4s, the 850 is too small. You will get very short flight time and bad voltage sag with that tiny 3s. You want something Like this with at least 70-100c
Transmitter- Buy the FS iA6 Mode 2, you will need an SBUS receiver to match, AFSHD 2 protocol. The T6 is the older model. If you can get an FS i6X then that’s even better.
Read this buying guide before choosing your transmitter.
Camera- This one is superb and less money.
You still need a VTX and goggles, which are not on your list.

You can’t really cheap out much more without compromising your whole experience, you will find cheap gear breaks more easily and performs worse. Critical things like losing video, a bad camera or losing radio signal will result in bad crashes or losing your quad.
My advice is to not buy any of that stuff, buy a good quality TX like the Taranis QX7, then spend $20 on a simulator if you own a PC, then keep saving up and buying parts of better quality whilst learning to fly in the simulator.
If you don’t have a PC (I don’t have one) then you will crash more. I lost my first quad, which was about $160 through VTX failure, so I know the price of cheap parts letting you down. I also crashed a lot and broke about $60 worth of parts learning without a sim. I am still not as good as I could have been if I practiced on a sim first, since you can fly the PC any time of day or night.
Does Banggood ship to Saudi? If so then that can be easier since many quality builders use Banggood links and this will help you avoid buying clones or poor kit.

Yup, I found that holybro also provides frames and FCs. The frame is found on Amazon for $67, it's a bit expensive for now, but it has really good features so it's in my consideration list. I would compare it now to the chameleon, there is $40 difference so I have to decide if the holybro worth the price difference.

Motors- 2306 2400kv I had those, they were OK, I have T Motor LF40’s now, which are better and on sale for not much more than the racerstars. My Racerstars got me flying and were good for learning.
I searched for those motors, wow I think they very nice. OK, I would put them in the purchase list :)

Thank you for telling me about this channel, I went through his videos about the 20A and 30A, but didn't understand what he is talking about, his opinion or analysis results. But what other good one you suggest for me?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pc...ff-45dd-96d7-5e242ecc41e6&transAbTest=ae803_3 How about 1500mah? does that mean more flight time? can I go more?

Transmitter- Buy the FS iA6 Mode 2, you will need an SBUS receiver to match, AFSHD 2 protocol. The T6 is the older model. If you can get an FS i6X then that’s even better.
Yeah, I learned that there are universal protocols and other are specific. The FS i6X would the best budget I guess. Going to a better one means the price would be +$120. I should take my decision on this one, because I want to know what a budget one would offer to me compared to a more expensive one like the

Read this buying guide before choosing your transmitter.

Found this option from RCschim, then I went to www.szfxt.com, for the venus pro, it's a good one. It's for $26 and free shipping.

FXT T82 Venus Pro Camera 800TVL Mini Camera with OSD

How about it?

You still need a VTX and goggles, which are not on your list.
Absolutely, the goggles are a serious one.
My plan is to get the main parts as I could, then I save up for the goggles and buy it as soon as I have its money.

You can’t really cheap out much more without compromising your whole experience, you will find cheap gear breaks more easily and performs worse. Critical things like losing video, a bad camera or losing radio signal will result in bad crashes or losing your quad.

That's what I'm thinking! The radio is a very important one. But going from the basic FS i6x to the Taranis, what are the advantages ? I'm thinking of things like longer range, better signal quality ... etc.

OK, I got your idea and this is actually my goal, I don't want to cheap a lot. I want very good things with reasonable price.

Does Banggood ship to Saudi? If so then that can be easier since many quality builders use Banggood links and this will help you avoid buying clones or poor kit.
Yes, but most the parts on Bangood are found on aliexpress too, and I'm a platinum member on aliexpress, so I want to buy my parts from there, that's why I'm sticking with aliexpress. Bangood would be good too, but I would go for it when it's really necessary and an important part isn't on aliexpress, then I have to buy it from Bangood.

HI wouldn’t bother with an expensive frame. The Martian is a clone of the Alien and is under $30. I have a $10 ZMR250 frame as well, it flies fine for learning.
The Taranis is a much better radio, it has better quality components, more channels and runs Open TX which allows you to do much more with it, like voice alerts, which are very handy when you are in your goggles. There’s a new Taranis due out for $60 which stills runs OpenTX but doesn’t have as many switches etc as the more expensive ones.
You can run 1500mah. Flight time difference is 30 sec-1min more.
I wouldn’t buy some unknown FPV cam with inferior spec, it’s your primary link to the quad. The Caddx is vastly superior to the one you linked. Your previous choice was better if you don’t want to buy the Ratel.
ESC’s- If you don’t understand about the EMF noise etc then look at the ones he recommended, if the tests say they are good then that’s enough. Look up the racerstar ones and see what proper testers have to say about them. They are likely alright. I would buy 30A ones whatever.

The parts I have chosen based on personal/members' preferences:

1. FC: Probably an F4 board
2. Frame: chameleon 220mm
3. ESCs: Maybe racerstar 20A, Flycolor Raptor 30A
4. Motors: LF40s
5. Radio: maybe FS iA6, Jumper T16 and there is a little one T12 or Taransis X9D or the little one you mentioned QX7
Note: The radios would be either one of the big ones Jumper T16 or Taransis X9D or little clones Jumper T12 or XQ7
7. Props: DALPROP CYCLONE T5249C
8. Batteries: 2pcs CNHL G+PLUS 1300mAh 4S, GOLDBAT 14.8V 1500mAh 4S or Infinity 4S 14.8V 1500mAh 85C Graphene
9. Camera: FXT T82 Venus Pro Camera 800TVL Mini Camera with OSD, FOXEER predator V3 or CADDEX.
10. Quad Antenna: I think the Foxeer is a good one, I got that from a comparison done by Joshua

I just need to calculate the prices and the total cost and then let's consider if the build worth the price or change things.

ESC- You need 30 Amp.
QX7 isn’t a clone, it’s a fully featured TX, as is the T12. My son flys a T12, it’s a good TX if a little small in size.
Buy a better camera. The Venus Pro is nowhere near as good as the Caddx Ratel or Predator V3.
If you build things in stages, starting with buying a TX to do some simulator flying, then some components like the frame, Receiver, FC and esc’s, then motors and battery, then VTX and camera. That way you can learn to fly in the sim and practice programming your TX.
Next you can learn to build and solder the core of your drone, plus set up the FC in Betaflight and even bind a receiver and set your rates. Then you can hook up the motors and set them up . After that you are ready to start flying line of sight. After that you can add the video feed then get goggles and go FPV.
This method will allow you to stage your purchases so you can buy better gear a bit at a time, whilst still allowing you to fly first virtually, then learn building skills, then get a bird in the air. FPV is the final stage, by which time you should be rocking the sim pretty well and will get more out of even a relatively cheap set of goggles. I have a $40 set of second hand Eachine box goggles, they are fine for learning in. I find them nearly as easy and comfy to use as my $300 Fatsharks.

Wake up! Time to fly!
1300 vs 1500 is more for less sag on punch outs then flight times.

I use the white wrapped china hobby line 4s 100c 1500mah on my Alien build. On my race builds I use their 5s 100c 1300 mah packs.
Great batteries.

I do question the choice of props.. why the weird size? I use dal props exclusively for the performance and durability. Id recommend the 5046 cyclones as a great overall choice. That prop you listed will be an amp hog.

2. This one goes from $133 to $140 for options I don't know about, so I need a help to know which one should I buy.

3. I like this one, has pretty much everything with the FPV goggles

4. Everything without goggles

5. Everything without camera and goggles

Thanks guys for any help,

I don't have a personal experience with Aliexpress but, a few of my friends have a bad experience. They got issues with the delivery and quality of products. So when I had to buy from China I found a Taobao agent. with those you have to worry about the quality and they do deliver in 6 days. So if you can't wait that long or risk quality of your kit you should check out https://www.newbecca.com and other Taobao agents if you still want to explore more options.

You're saying that this supplier delivers from China in six days? I can't get domestic deliveries that fast. Quantum teleportation. Must be. September 9th. Nobody has squashed this, yet?

I vote for the third one, it seems great.
I have an RC Quadcopter Drone but didn't buy it from Aliexpress. It works great.
