Who's commented on Remote ID?

So, as of today, there's just under 13,000 comments on the FAA remote ID proposal, of which I'd say most are against it. I'm not going to get into the arguing of the details on what's being said; that gets people fighting back and forth, and I don't want that.

Here's the problem I see with the roughly 13,000 comments. The AMA has over 250,000 members. I know there are people here in FliteTest who aren't AMA members. We should have well over 100,000 comments on this issue at this point, not this lackadaisical attitude that it's someone else's problem that some of us have taken. We need more comments on this issue or else it's going to go into effect and kill the hobby as we know it.

If you haven't commented THOUGHTFULLY (meaning, don't swear, tell them they suck, you hate the FAA, etc.), go comment. NOW.

If you have commented, great. Go back and comment again. We need more numbers on this, and we want it to be MEANINGFUL.

Some people think it's the AMA's job to stand up for us. Yes, they should be. But the FAA isn't listening to them. So stop blaming them. Say something directly to the FAA, make yourself heard. COMMENT.

I'm pretty sure people here are upset over this potential proposal; don't let it go. You have until March 2nd to comment. Please do; I'd like to keep flying and not have to go through the rigamarole of the Remote ID. I've already seen people say they'll quit flying, which means no more purchasing of models and parts. Hobby stores will close because they can't keep themselves open from lack of purchases. Manufacturers have already stated that if this goes through, they may have to fold due to the loss of business from people not wanting to fly.

Please, make yourself heard.

I've made my comment, I wrote about why I enjoy the hobby, how I enjoy the hobby, and how they'll be ruining the hobby for me.
And I think there should be many more comments, what baffles me is that FT has videos on the topic but won't post them on their main channel where they have a MUCH larger audience than the FTCA...

This should make it super easy. The first vid has links to all the info you need from where to comment, how to comment, what others have commented, he explains it all.

I am in the process of rough drafting my comment now, even though I am Canadian I can't just stand by and watch this injustice take place. I hope this helps to encourage you all to take a little time to protect not only the hobby but the rest of your civil rights you enjoy.

Thank you very much for your help! I'm going to keep doing my thing though, as local law enforcement does not enforce federal administrations.

And you should. Many companies have said if they’re forced to go this route of Remote ID, they might shut down because of the loss of their customers no longer buying parts or planes...

Here's the thing with this - even if you DON'T fly at an AMA field, or don't participate with the AMA, this affects you. The people NOT flying in a FRIA, if this law goes into effect, WILL be required to have a Remote ID. If you fly on your own property, if you fly in a public park, if you fly at the beach, if you fly off of a hillside - anywhere that's not an FAA Recognized Identification Area - you'll be subject to the impact.

Write now, write thoughtful comments (not "FAA, you suck!" or "You're taking bribes from Amazon, FedEx, and UPS!" comments; those don't help the issue), and tell them that you're opposed.

Also, write your Congressmen. Let them know you're upset over this proposal.

I don’t fly at an ama field, but I am an ama member. I will be putting in a comment though.

The Commenting Power: Agency Accountability T hrough Public Participation

I understand your desire for more fire power, but 5% of the AMA is not too shabby. The agency is required to address "significant comments".

The important thing now will be to see how the FAA addresses the comments. The paper trail is being set out for later attacks on the regs. if necessary.

True, but 13,000 signatures isn't much when you consider we have close to 15 times that just in the AMA. We should have 20% commenting, at the very least. 5% says 95% of the members don't care or agree with the current proposal to politicians concerned with numbers. Keep in mind, too, that we may not have "significant comments" raised. I mean, we have comments like this littered throughout:

"So, if I own a ten acre property 40 miles away from the nearest airport with no other houses in my line of sight, I have to keep my model airplane (which takes 500 feet to get off the ground) within 400 feet of where I am standing?

That's absurd."

While I understand the sentiment, that's not a valid comment - it doesn't talk about impact, whether it be economic, military/law enforcement, commercial, or hobbyist, and it doesn't provide any other options other than to sound like an old man yelling, "Get off of my lawn!" How many people take that seriously? I'd rather have more comments and better quality for them to wade through, raising valid points. And I think we can do that.

Yes. You are right about the need for quality comments. The point I didn't make very clear is that substantial issues *have* been raised. The FAA won't be able to blow us off. They will be forced to address the substantial comments. Optimism lives!

5% says 95% of the members don't care or agree with the current proposal to politicians concerned with numbers.

Two things here I think.
1. The FAA aren't politicians. The FAA are bureaucrats. The FAA is not reasonable and is not capable of being reasonable. It's purpose is control of the national airspace (implementation) and they take it seriously. Reason (policy) is for politicians. The FAA is like the bouncer at the cool nightclub. If you have to talk to him at all, you don't belong there.

2. Gatwick. We all saw what happened. Some hosehead allegedly flew a drone by the runway. Police kicked down the door of the nearest, legally registered person on the list, released his name to the media and questioned him and his wife for hours. Whatcha wanna bet they no longer own a drone? Sorry to say but freely associating yourself with a targeted activity to a government employee, is just an IQ test.

My point being that the numbers do not necessarily indicate agreement or passion but may also indicate caution. The numbers also do not indicate how many people contact their congressman and skip the FAA altogether.

Phone calls get answered. I spent an hour on the phone with Senator Lamborn Monday during his town hall. I have spoken with him several times over 10-15 of these calls. Calling him does not register to the FAA and will not show in any numbers.

It's not the numbers that matter anyway is it?

It's the personal relationships that count; always and in all things.

The goal is to get to where the bouncer picks you up in the limo and escorts you into the cool nightclub through the cool kids entrance.

IMO we are playing the wrong game.

Well, if that's the case, we're all up a very dirty body of water without a rowing instrument, and shouldn't bother at all submitting. I refuse to believe that's the case.
