Why I LOVE Used Glow Planes, They're CHEAP!!!

I just picked this up from a fellow club member for $75!! Completely built, radio installed (needs a 2.4 receiver), but that's okay. That's an OS .46 FX on the nose and it needs no repairs!! Clean up the engine, drop in a Rx and fly!!!

I am excited to get this one in the air!!

Ok, this deserves a break from college mindset: that is a sig fazer, and you are going to love it. Period. End of discussion.:D it is one of the best planes I have ever flown. Great find!

Looks like a good stunter.
2 ailreon servos and flaperon connected to the elevator helps you fly squares and triangles with 5 ft radius.

Finally I can see a positive benefit for club membership, alas there are none nearby. I stand alone! :(

There is nothing that can compete with the aroma of model diesel fuel.
No hazzle with glow batteries. Just fuel up, flick the prop, adjust the comp and fly.

I wonder if anyone is flying with Biodiesel?

I have never been around a diesel RC engine. They were never really that popular with the groups I have flown with. I can't speak for much more than a limited area in the western United States, but I don't think the diesel engines are that popular here. I've never even seen one outside of the internet, and places like Tower Hobbies don't sell any diesel engines or parts. It sounds intriguing. I am a farm boy, so really don't mind the smell of diesel. Even at over $4/gallon, still more than 4x cheaper than glow fuel.

An RC aircraft is not for highway use so dyed farm diesel should be fine IMHO! It should be a bit cheaper than road diesel.

Model diesel:
20 % Ricin oil (Castor).
40 % Ether (C2H5)2O
40 % kerosene
It does not smell at all like "normal" diesel, more like what older people associate with going to the doc or dentist.

And the Castor bean plant (Ricin) is considered as a biological warfare agent in the USA now!

Is this something to move to the "behind the shed" thread?
Most old people has got this oil as medicin as kids - laxative.
I can se a lot of "dirty jokes" about this coming up ;-)

The FAI "standard" fuel for glow engines contains 20% ricin oil and 80 % methanol - also pioson.

The Fazer flew really well, in spite of the fact that it's quite nose heavy! Inverted flight takes way too much elevator. It also wants to fall out of knife edge, likely because of the forward CG. There's not much room to move stuff around, but I need to figure out how to get the CG more aft without adding ballast. It's nice and floaty right now, so I really don't want it any heavier. If the wind will quit, I will see if I can talk the wife into taking some video this evening.
