why upgrade Turnigy 9x module to frsky

Good morning All,
I am a new RC Pilot, I have a Turnigy 9x Radio , I would like to know if I should upgrade my 9x module to a frsky, please let me know what kind of benefits I will get doing so. also I would appreciate let me know what kind of module I should buy.

As far as i know, the stock module has a pretty limited range of receivers you can use. If you upgrade to an XJT module, you have a massive range of receivers. from tiny 5 channels that weigh less then a quarter, to long range 18 channel beasts with telemetry.
I'm not sure what protocol the 9x module runs, but ACCST is probably more reliable.
Also with FrSky receivers, you have the ability to use SBus, which is a great thing to have for multirotors.

AND you can also use micro servos, which is nice.

As I said before I am new in the hobby, but I love it, Honestly I don't mind spend few dollars, and get a nice receiver because I know I will need it soon.
Something that is really important for me is get information from my Plane(Bixler 2) like battery status, altitude,etc.
I believe that will be resolved with Telemetry, if so what do I need to buy to get that information in some kind of screen.

As a side note I am planning to buy a FPV kit soon my next question would be, Do I have to have Telemetry if I want to use OSD?

Since you are running a 9x you are going to need a screen for telemetry. One option is this screen which works with the XJT module.
You're also going to need whatever sensors for the data you want to collect, which can be found here.

As for your OSD, no, you don't need telemetry. OSDs operates separately of your telemetry system. (Most people wouldn't use them both at the same time.) Your OSD inserts the data into the video feed before its transmitted from the plane.

There is a telemetry mod for the 9X but it's tricky. You may be able to get it more easily if you add one of the upgrade boards. Also telemetry alone is not that useful unless it talks and I'm not sure you can get that easily with the 9X mods.

The easiest way is to get that is with an XJT and the FrSky dashboard....

But then you have a mount an extra little screen on your TX. It talks and records. I haven't used one. Just pointing it out.

However, by the time you have spent all that you are well on you way to just buying a Taranis Plus

Another way to get telemetry if you use FPV is via OSD (On Screen Display) This can be added quite cheaply once you have the FPV gear. The main problem is that OSD is distracting visually and you can't get a data log since it is embedded in the video stream. Audio alerts are better since they are triggered by events.

Data logging means you can do analysis after the fact. Logging is built into the FrSky Taranis OpenTX telemetry and you can replay the logs in OpenTX Companion - not sure if you can do that with the FrSky Dashboard logs. Alternatively there are ways to add on board logging to multi-rotor flight controllers that you can use with programs like Cleanflight assuming you can recover your model - so lots of options here

You won't regret going to FrSky. As with Richmond2000, probably the main reason I went to FrSky is the frequent antenna breaks on the Turnigy rx's. I suffered too many crashes due to these. They break just inside the rx casing so you can't see that a break has occurred.
