I remember this thread now, I was following awhile ago and I don't remember seeing the covering part. it seems more and more people are getting interested in these WN balsa builds... I want to try one but I would like something bigger, they just don't offer it... yet

I don't think WN intends to design or release any bigger designs - they are specifically staying under the FAA regulated limit. Old School Model Works is a good new company releasing bigger kits http://oldschoolmodels.com/

I have that same 1806 motor in a couple of <8.5 ounce airplanes. Vertical climb is very possible with a 850mAh 2S 20C battery. I think you can rip the wings off with a 3S. Your idea to switch to a 2S is smart.
