I have been playing around with various methods of wireless Buddy Boxing on various RadioMaster radios. I still have older TX16S MK1/2 radios and a Pocket ELRS myself, but have also been able to play with some of the latest radios at work. The older radios have serial ports that can be used internally or externally. The newer ones can only be done internally. The TX16s MK1/2 for example have two serial ports on the bottom which you can plug things like, Bluetooth, GPS, RXes, etc into. Here I have a XR2 ELRS RX module plugged in to my TX16s MK1 and it is set to SBUS inverted output. It is plugged in -,5v, and the TX pin of the receiver is plugged in to the RX pin of the port.
You can then go into your system settings and enable the port for SBUS Trainer Inv.
SYS --> Hardware --> AUX1
If you want to put the module into bind mode, toggle the power on 3x in a row, then bind to it on the trainees radio. The older radios can only do SBUS inverted. The newer radios released in the last year can do standard or inverted SBUS. The trainer mode still only seems to be available using SBUS Inverted though.
In the Model you want to use with trainer mode, you need to make two changes. First enable the Trainer setup in the Model Settings tab. MDL --> Model Settings --> trainer
Set the mode to MASTER/SERIAL
The "Module" options are for External JR backpack models. Those do NOT apply to this scenario. I plan to get one of those modules and will show how to use one of those later,
Next, you must configure a switch override to actually enable the trainer transfer. This is done by adding a special Function MDL --> Special Functions --> +
Then set the switch position that enables the trainer transfer and the other settings. A momentary switch held down for trainer mode makes for easy transfer back to your radio when released.
If you select AXIS, the main 4 AETR/TAER channels are the only channels transferred. There are other screens under SYS -> trainer that can fine tune which channels are transferred if say you don't want to pass throttle. The trims on the primary radio are what is used. The trainee radio should NOT have any trims and just straight channel passthrough.
Here you can see the RX config on my trainee radio (pocket ELRS) After binding to the RX that is plugged into my TX16S. If everything is configured correctly, the radio will give you a verbal "Trainer Connected". When the trainer radio is bound.
Now all you need to do is flip/hold the switch/button you used to enable trainer mode to give control to the trainee radio.
RadioMaster has External JR and Nano modules that can be used with a SBUS RX as well. That would be what the SBUS Module setting mentioned above would be used for.

This should work with most EdgeTX based radios. Any trainee radio that can bind to the serial/SBUS RX can be used. (This will work with ELRS/FrSky/Futaba/Etc RX modules)
ALWAYS PREFLIGHT CHECK THAT YOUR TRAINEE RADIO CHANNEL MAPPING MOVES THE CONTROLS PROPERLY BEFORE FLIGHT! Just like you preflight check your own radio. 😁
If you are using an ELRS RX in SBUS mode, do NOT use your standard binding phrase on the RX you are using. Your radio will immediately connect to itself if you do! 🤣
Cheers!!
