Lol that sounds perfect for a first jet. How hard are they too fly?
My ten year old son said that they were the perfect trainer jet. I agree, they're very docile. Also, they launch incredibly easy. A light toss at full throttle and they zoom upward without a bit of drop. I use 2x 2200mah 3s batteries in series and that’s pretty light, so that contributes.

really? I thought a fast roll rate would be tricky to fly.

So I actually think that the roll rate on this plane is fairly relaxed. However, I tend to have the roll rate on all my planes cranked way up. Since this uses tailerons, it doesn’t have as high of a roll rate as something with ailerons. The tailerons are closer together so they have less authority. I’ve considered adding ailerons to this for high roll rates, but flies very nicely as is.

I had a productive last two weekends. Two 125% scaled, 80mm EDF, 6S powered, ailerons added variants finished! They are capable of going vertical straight from launch. Now it's time for the paint booth. This is definitely one of my all-time favorites found on this site. Thanks again @Mid7night.

These have been so much fun. Got 'em painted this weekend. View attachment 250911
Love the paint scheme!

Did you keep tailerons or go to a conventional elevator+aileron setup?

How is the roll rate now? The taileron setup is adequate, but you can’t do any super fast rolls. Are rolls fast with ailerons?

Why did you do full length ailerons instead of just the ends? Servo placement? Do you notice any adverse yaw as a result?

Thanks!

The tail was made as stated in the plans except they only function as elevators now. I did put ailerons on. Truthfully, I didn’t even consider making the ailerons smaller. As folded, the wing creates an area perfect to as full size. I’ve added a pic to see the placement. The roll rate is very quick. The videos above don’t show the full roll rate capability. This is one of the best flying EDFs we have, home built or purchased. I added a couple more pics so you can see the hatch mods. It needed a little extra support under the canopy to hold the sides together. I added a couple magnets while I was at it. I also flipped the placement of the canopy hold down so I could put a simple 3d printed latch on the front. The hold down fits on top of the battery. The latch would not have.

Is there a 64mm edf version of this?
There isn’t, but scaling it down when you print the plans should work fine. Just scale it by 64/70, or about 91.5%. With such a slight scaling, you shouldn’t have to worry about resizing the folds. Foam board is squishy enough to accommodate small differences.

To scale it, just using the scaling option in the Adobe Acrobat print dialog.

went and ordered a 70mm 12blade 3300KV edf, was concerned about not enough thrust with my 64mm because it's rated for 3s.
