Zombie V Tail Build

This is my first V Tail build that will search out the Zombie horde. I bought the Bat Bone frame and have recieved great help from Josh on the parts that I needed. This post will be updated as parts come in from several vendors, so I will start with the frame.

The stock Bat Bone frame with the 2 side brackets modified for the V Tail.

I then hydrographed the frame with a cool Zombie print. It was a toss up on the graphics, Mossy Oak, Flames, Money or ACU. The Zombies won!

Using 12mm carbon fiber tubes for the motor booms, I added wood rods inside them for extra strength. Rods were secured with medium CA glue.

Now I have assembled the booms on the frame which shows booms retracted and extended.

This is the ESC, Emax MT2213-935 motor and 1045 prop I will be using.

More to come as soon as it gets off the slow boat from China.

***************************************************

Well it's Oct 3rd and I am still waiting on HobbyKing for my retracks, however I thought I would show a quick disconnect for my front booms so they can fold back.

First I had to cut the front booms down 40mm as instructed by David. Since I used Carbon Fiber booms I wanted a clean and exact cut. I found that by using a plumbers pipe cutter I was able to cut right through the CF and the wood dowel inside the boom. Although it did not cut it completely all I had to do was a light snap to seperate the two as you can see.

Next I needed to secure the front booms from retracking in flight so I drilled a hole in the boom using the predrilled hole in the BB frame. I then used a 1" cotter pin and 4 earth washer magnets. I glued the 2 magents (1 on top and 1 on the bottom per side) on the BB frame. After the glue has setup over the holes I can install the pin. Earth magnets are very strong and they hold the pins securely in place. It takes a little pull to remove the pin however I feel very comfortable they will stay in while flying. I will later add a 3/8" key ring on each cotter pin to help in removing the pin.

My other items are coming from California and I bet they beat the retracks, until then. CAVU

*********************************************************************

Oct 4th the motor mounts came in from China in just 8 days, and after several weeks so did the retrackable landing gear:applause: The motor mounts are better than I had hoped for, and they fit the 12mm tube like a glove. Also the Emax MT2213-935 motors that I got from Dan over at www.Lazertoyz.com bolted right up with no issues. I like these motors that Dan suggested, he has been excellent to work with and always ready to help. I got these mounts off of eBay and here is the listing for them, http://www.ebay.com/itm/150786955758?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649.

And this is what they look like attached to my 12mm CF boom tubes.

Here is what the drone looks like folded up.

And now with the booms extended.

Ok until more stuff comes in, may all your days be CAVU.

*********************************************************************

Oct 9th and I added the ESC's after I figured out how to extend the power wires so I could hook them up to the KK2 board. I found on eBay short extention wires that are female dean to male bullet connectors that will work well. I also found a real nice power distribution board that all the ESC's can plug into. This will solve having to cut and splice the power wires to the battery. Batteries will be in a day or two along with the PD board. All is coming together slowly but in order of the build, here are the ESC's mounted to the booms.

@ epic.engineering - It's a very detailed process using a water tank, activator and a steady hand and clear coat. Lots of people sell the graghics on eBay and some sell kits that has everthing you need to do the Hydrographics. After you get the into it's fun to do but it does have a cost to get started. If you want to see how it's done check out Youtube and search Hydrographics. Lots of people have gun stocks done using the Mossy Oak design. I have graphics to do ACU, Mossy Oak w/ a Confederate flag on some oak leaves, money, flames, and of coarse Zombies.

Wow, starting to look nice,

I guess it is kind of a hybrid: using the BatBone frame, but with round carbon tubes, nice touch!

I saw you lock the front booms, aren't you afraid to damage them on impact, if they're allowed to fold back (David's approach), you don't have that risk (maybe impact is not a concern for you, I'm thinking of my own flying skills, or lack thereof:))

The 12mm tubes are a little smaller then the wooden booms. The wooden booms lock in tight so they don't come out of the frame. The CF tubes would flop out. The tubes are cheap and I know I will crash but that's the fun of it all, right!
