Lastly, it is time to piece it together and see how she looks!

I spent some time yesterday getting some work done on the second NOOB as I try to find my LEDs that are going to go in the first 300% NOOB Wonder.
In a short while. Most of the parts are laid out and ready for cutting. This time around, I plan to uses two glue guns, as I noticed I was laying down glue fast than it can keep up with, and if I wait for it to cath up, the glue solidifies some. lets hope it works.

This weekend was productive and tiring and exciting! Yesterday was a big day.
Joe and I got together to finish the one, and start the other.

Noob #2 underway.
Formers
spar trussing IMG_20230604_133741624.jpg box spar and the trussing skewered with the broom-handle wing joiner tube.
Joe having fun

While Joe did that, I worked on the finishing touches of build #1.
This is the box in a box design for strength.
IMG_20230603_120713498.jpg motors got mounted to sturdy firewalls to fit over the center box IMG_20230603_120718653.jpg mounter to yet a 3rd yet smaller box. It is very important the front edge had the same angle as the front of the fuse. IMG_20230603_125605904.jpg then we put all the things together and weighed them. 10lbs AUW.
IMG_20230603_141538469.jpg
It's tough to find a spot to assemble this!
IMG_20230603_141602621.jpg
The ESC was recommended to be out side so it get cooling air.
IMG_20230603_175038046.jpg
And let's put the battery in snug
IMG_20230603_175101403.jpg
the logo looks good
IMG_20230603_174958126.jpg
Then we packed it up and in caravan fashion, Joe, Amy, Mike (@Yankee2003 ) and I hit the field, Ready for the maiden.

Then with a 4-car Caravan, when headed out to the field.

We started with a gentle toss in the tall grass:

Then Matt took it into the Air:
Then Joe gets a hand at it too:
Afterwards we took the success momentum and had our own wonder jumble

I couldn't get an more pictures as I joined in too. We flew a number of energetic circuits some in formation, some in playful combat like maneuvers. Thing stopped when we heard a RRRrrpt! And I cut throttle when I saw my motor hanging from the front of the plane. Luckily I brought it down safely. It seems that the previous crash had created hidden damage, that only became clear during the rigours of combat. IMG_20230603_192454089.jpg
It was an amazing day!

This next step is the most important and critical. The setting of the spar.
This setting of the spar didn't go as smoothly as I hoped.
The spar holder. Transfers load to the fuse, or is it to the wings.
IMG_20230610_140936250.jpg
put them in, get them level
IMG_20230612_105236484.jpg
both the fuse and the spar
IMG_20230612_105251457.jpg
After the wing skin roll debacle. I was pleased to see this line.

Checking alignments

IMG_20230612_105328885.jpg
a last shimming before gluing the doubler plates
IMG_20230612_105351591.jpg
Finally happy with the results.

Now I can start moving forward.

I debated a while during the builds how I was going to do this design scheme. as this was a podcast project, I was going to put it podcast colors, and put our podcast logo/mascot? On it. I had decided on blue feathers. One has a positive, the other a negative.
I landed on a sunburst. Orange for me, and blue for my co-host Joe.
IMG_20230616_145112733.jpg
our personal icons were going underneath.
This way we knew who was flying what in combat. (Should the both go)
Joe's:

mine:

here's most of the top. (Big birds are hard to photograph in small spaces)

One, all done.
NOOB#2 left. It should go quick.

Does anyone want to see the plans?
What would you do with one of these Birds?
