FT Waco Glider kit

Good day, I don't think this is the proper place for this question, but I cannot find a place to post what I would like to know. There seems to be a lot of knowledge here so I thought maybe I could ask for help here. I recently bought the FT Waco CG4 kit. It built perfectly and is nearly finished. Where would I find info on painting this brown cardboard covering? My other concern is powering it possibly with elec. motor (s). Is this a recent FT kit? I don't find it in the forum searchs I have done. Thanks to anyone with enough patience to help.

  1. to my knowledge it is a resent kit
  2. painting - likely scuff up the surface (to improve adhesion) then do light coats of spray paint (test on some of the scrap foam, some spray paints will eat the foam)
  3. looking at the plans (FTCA membership benefit), if I was going to power it, I would make it a twin with motors on the wings. (a Twin A-Pack would enough power)

Thanks Jason. What is an FTCA membership? Yes I to was think a twin motor setup might be the way to go unless someone had developed a single motor that mounted in the nose cone. Also, I will look up a "Twin A Pack".. Being new to Flitetest, I had not heard of such a package. I will go over to the Store and see if it is listed there. Very helpful indeed.

The Waco is a new kit, it was released at Flitefest! I picked one up while at the event but I haven’t gotten a chance to build it yet, but from what I can tell it looks like it’s a great build. I agree with @JasonK an A twin pack would be great for it.

That explains why I find nothing on it. Too new for things I was searching for. I must say for my first Flitetest build I was impressed with the fit, and completeness of the kit. I build from plans a lot where you have to find every screw, stick, and all. This is all in the box. I am learning this hot glue and struggling with it but that will come around. My research ended up with the XPG-2 Waco being the twin engine version I may go for in the future. It uses under wing pods for the engines..an easy add-on.

Power Pack A Twin: https://store.flitetest.com/ft-power-pack-a-twin-radial/
you will probably want a 1300-2500mAh 3s battery to go with that and will have to build your own motor pods, make sure you setup one motor running clockwise and the other counter clock wise.

If you have a 3D printer, you could use something like this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4760928 to mount the motors to the wings (that is what I used in this build: https://forum.flitetest.com/index.php?resources/vtail-twin-stol.230/

All good information. I could not get your thingyverse file to view but I did see what you built by viewing the photos of your build. I made a lot of parts for my Wrightflyer and other models. I struggle with ABS and am building an enclosure soon. Will be using PETG for my next parts and see how that works. I like your mount for strength and then a foam nacelle for looks on my Waco. First I have to be happy with the flight of the machine.

I have only used PLA myself. I did design that to be just strong enough and light weight.
