This is my declaration for this years Build-ruary Build Challenge. As the first three days I will be out on business (may favorite most Energetic Time)

Build 1 (Long EZ) (2/10,2/11)
This is the kit I picked up as a volunteer from FT for being a volunteer. I planned on using the pieces to cut out 18 for the Cub Scout pack STEM. As this will be the plane we build this year.

After my tried and true band saw, cut-9-Planes-at-a-go method, we were ready.

Wait! I still haven't built one yet.
So during the Aviation RC Noob Podcast Buildruary Build Party, I built two. Wired up one for RC fully. The chuck glider one, I build using tape as much as possible. I used glue to glue down the top and bottoms. And the winglet. That was all, because I want k-5 graders using hot glue as little as possible. It's their build not the parents.

Flight:
Chuck Gliders
Here are the Maiden flights of the chuck gliders the red one is the test model. The yellow and orange is the Demo. Both flew great with 1 nickel of weight at the nose.

RC Version

Debrief of the chuck gliders:
The kids planes all flew well, and were/are durable. As a Chuck glider it was perfect.

  • Torque roll made this impossible to launch right for me. If this were my first RC kit, I would be very disappointed.
  • It is Durable. There were 5 hard nose-ins before I saw real damage. I could have added doublers to the nose for more strength.
  • Use a thicker BBQ skewer along the canard.
  • Use a lighter 2S battery.
  • Velcro the esc so a crash won't unplug the motor wires.

Take aways:
I need to update the plans for the adjustments. I should spend some more time to include the parts that create a reproducible twist.

I think the balance spots are good, I flew it a bit tail heavy. It would have been better with more nose weight.

Lastly. Low rates. Use low rates for serious proverse yawing action! Now I should be able to build your own with confidence.

PS - the added weight didn't seem to help.

Build 3 (B2 Stealth Bomber)

I will be building the B2 stealth bomber by Julius Perdana fro YouTube. Plans are available from a link in the vids.

I have a small pile of depron, so I taped the sheets.

got on with some Build-ruary builders on the ARCN discord and started placing them on the depron. A total of 6 massive sheets. As everything was 2X times. Easier to cut them at once.

Finally got cutting. Including the ply.*

2/16 - I may need to punt on this. I have cut out the F-117 from this vid, which I plan to install and EDF instead of the prop-in-slot.

2/19 - Build Morning
Below is the EDF break wall between intake and exhaust. (Parts beyond the plan) it is installed right behind the intake opening. It should be 3/16" taller.

I set the EDF on either side using Kraft sticks.
Glued between a foam pillar. The fuse roof pins it in.

I also had to add a dart on the top to expand the surface to accommodate the EDF.
I then needed to add the rear panel as the plans stop at the motor slot. Which looks like this:

I found another EDF, (64mm with a 4S) and swapped them out, and messed another RX sucking it into the EDF. And shaved some wires.

This is just destined not to be...

Take away:
Great Build. 2 pieces of foam for a great look. If you make it with an EDF. Build out the intakes to protect the battery and RX from getting sucked.

Take-aways:
Generally speaking you need to put a decent amount of reflex to make this fly right and I had a lot more right reflex to get it to fly level as there's a lot of torque roll.
As you can see it's still flies great. Once I nail this down it's going to make a great beginner plane and fpv plane.

I have built my first three planes. In two days. Two are chuck gliders and have flown (see post 2.) The other is the complete RC version. It is ready to see fairer weather for a maiden flight. Should be soon.

Flight debrief in the build post.

This can be a frustrating hobby for sure. Don’t be too hard on yourself for “venting” a bit. We are emotional creatures and it is okay to show them from time to time. When things go good we smile and laugh. When things build up a bit and it goes against us….it’s okay to let yourself be disappointed. The light and the dark….the good and the bad….the Ying and the Yang….it’s all the same thing.
I do love the Long Ez airframe. But even the most beautiful airframe can test our will.

F-117 has wheels. And servos are ready. I only had 1 hr. Productive, but not as much as I hoped. Gluing tomorrow. Weather will be perfect for a maiden or two.

Coffee will play a critical role.

I forgot to take pictures but the prandal t is cut out folded servos are working and I'm just need to essentially glue it and attach the surfaces. So my estimate about halfway there I should be able to finish it tomorrow and with any luck made in it.
