Minwaxing wings?

Hi everyone!
I've been building a Polaris seaplane over the past few weekends, and I was planning to minwax the whole plane to make it waterproof, like in this video
. Problem is, I didn't pay attention to the part where they said "don't do it to wings, it will warp them," and still tried it... anyway, I was able to get all the minwaxed paper off the wings without damaging them. Any ideas on how to re-cover the wings with something so they are a little stronger & more impact-resistant?

Packing tape is cheap, easy to use, lightweight, and water proof. I think you can even get colored roll to match your plane.
