Time-lapse Camera Slider

I would like to make a time-lapse camera slider for under 20$. My main Idea would be to use wood as a base to create a track and then use scooter wheels to move the camera on its mount. Ideally it would be powered. Therefore I would be needing a motor and an electric motor with lipo and ESC. I just need a controller. I have thought to just use a normal cheap hobby king controller and gear the motor to go really slow. Any Ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered using a Continuous Rotation Servo, direct driving the wheels? quite a few robotics projects go that route.

There was a video about that recently . . .
