esc programming

Hello I have a question about ESC. I know that first I need to turn on transmitter before powering ESC other wise motor start running, the same thing will happens when transmitter batteries dies (or out of range)? Is there a way change that? (I do not want to that my plane one day flies away :)...

With ESC's and motors being used in several different applications, I thought some education on ESC settings/programming would be fantastic. How to program is a little different from manufacturer to manufacturer, but information on setting the timing, low voltage protection, soft start, battery...
