Well... I decided on trying out the FT scout, but with a 10% increase in size which raises its load bearing a lot, and also with a profile fuselage because I don't have enough material for anything more extravagant, not to mention the weight issue hehehe.
This build will take its time as I don't even have an ESC or servos for it, and they will take about a month to 6 weeks to come on the slow boat from China, so, what's the rush??
Also, I don't have a glue gun as it's not something I use in balsa builds, and this is a first step in foamboard. And rather than spending a small fortune on something I might not use much (because of how scarce FB is here), and instead of just getting a cheap one that won't do the job properly, I've opted for the 3rd option, being to use a slow curing epoxy that seems to work pretty well with this foamboard as I have tried it out before, and seeing as there is no rush, I can leave one piece all night curing.
So I've started by cutting out the wings, 670mm x 170mm, cutting them in half so I can do the dihedral easier (though it might be useful depending on how I do the fuselage), and cutting out the piece for the camber on the wing and gluing that into place... I've started on one side first. This foamboard doesn't work with just scoring it, it's just too hard, so I cut out a 2mm angle, leaving it connected by the backing on one side much like how the control beveling goes, and then just glue that into place with a couple of pieces under to keep the angle, and just put a few LiPos on top to hold it in place. Now comes leaving it for a few hours, and I might put a piece of tape on the cut and glued side in the end.
If that comes out any good, I'll file down the leading and trailing edges a bit to give it a rounded profile on the front and to thin out the back... one thing I was thinking of for the back was cutting through the foam on the trailing edge to separate the paper, then remove some of the foam inside, and restick it back together so it still has the paper on the top and bottom, but much thinner than the 1cm thickness this has... depends on how crazy I feel.
So I think I'll turn this into my build thread, and just go slowly, see how it all goes.
