Drones getting attention in Australia

I'm not sure we want this attention, but this program made by an Australian journalist is getting some traction: http://www.abc.net.au/foreign/content/2012/s3582815.htm

There is a bit of controversy over Australia purchasing 7 Reaper type drones for maritime surveillance, but there's also enough attention on 'domestic drones' to prompt this: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-13/drone-technology-prompts-privacy-law-review-call/4260526

I'm hoping to prompt my department to use drones for park surveillance, as we spend a lot on planes and choppers that are easily detected by people undertaking illegal activities in our marine parks (not to say we don't catch a few anyway...).

Absolutely... Although I think this whole controversy started from people filming other people sunbathing in back yards...

Haha, you've seen the street I live on... I doubt there'd be anything worth spying on!

I'm heading out to one of my favourite fishing spots today though. I'd love to have a multi to film the cliff face. I'll take a pic and upload it. It'd also be cool to get some sweeping fixed wing footage through there, although carrying the Bixler down the trail would be a bit of a pain.
