I downloaded the plans for a Simple Cub and flew for my first time last week. No trainer, just practice with a RC simulator. It worked for me. I still have to master the landings. There were some crashes but nothing serious, the bird kept on flying:
First day:
(I almost hit my friend, the cameraman).
Second day (the following week):
(I almost destroy it but it was just the left landing gear that scrape the ground)
