I always liked the Piper Cub, I'm an old school model airplane builder and always wanted to have it. A few months ago, I looked at the carbon cub model that e-fly produced, and I decided to build a similar one. So, I merge, the elaboration of the simple cub of (flite test) and my own knowledge. In this way, the Piper cub J3 legend was born.

This is an older thread, but I wanted to give a shoutout to @PATRONES. This was a very simple, but extremely well designed model. I built your design with only a few tweaks. I substituted 3D printed parts for all plywood, added a carbon spar, and added a few other 3D printed pieces of my own design (cowl, door frames, tires, and a model of my kid as the pilot). I powered it with a 4S 2814 1200kv. It’s capable of light 3D and screams across the sky!

I’ve used both spray paint from cans and an airbrush. This one was airbrush. The trick is multiple extremely light coats and let it dry in between. Too much and the paper will delaminate from the foam. It effectively seals the paper after it’s fully coated. This is DTFB.

Yeah, that's why I do a couple coats of Minwax (Oil based!) because then you don't have to worry about it de laminating. That also water proofs it nicely
