I don't know a whole lot in this particular dept but I do think a symmetrical airfoil would be best which you've already picked. I would even look, and/or consider, basing the plane similar to the Racer (which puts it close to the V900 design as well). The Racer's wings are swept back which could help in terms of less drag/more speed.

Josh Finn has been doing a speedy pylon racer with some pretty fast speeds. Might check his thread and videos out on the topic...

I have to agree with this. The Racer I think will give you a better starting point because it's already faster in my opinion than the Spitfire and I've personally flown both.

Fun topic.

My suggestion would be to build the entire pod out of light ply instead of taking a firewall to foam. The structural integrity gained is enormous and it's really not that much effort. Additionally, a wooden power pod would allow you to run a monster motor without any fear of the firewall coming loose.
