Bix 3 v Bixler 2 Decision

I am going to buy either the Bix 3 or the Bixler 2 in the near future but I have a few questions which I would like answering before I make my purchase.

As of now, I was planning to buy the Bixler 2 as it is cheaper and looks easy to fly (It would be my 3rd plane). However, I want to also learn some skill in aerobatics and more difficult flight with this plane so I don't want the easiness to make it too limiting.

1. Ive heard that the Bixler 2 is quite slow in comparison to the bixler 1 and bix 3, is it that much worse?

From what I have seen, it looks like the Bix 3 is just a pre-modded Bixler 2 (as the Bixler 2 was to the Bixler 1), and because I am relatively new and wouldn't use the flaps or fpv straight away, I thought it would be a good idea to buy the Bixler 2 and then mod it myself.

2.I was wondering how difficult these mods were (I have some experience as my second plane was the FT Spitfire which I crashed and reinforced many times).

3. Also I didnt understand the improvement made on the flaps in the Bix 3 as I thought that all you needed to do to the Bixler 2 was add servos for them to work and the same for the Bix 3, what is the improvement?

However, on the other hand, I thought the pre-installed landing gear and controllable tail wheel would make it easier to take off, and less likely for me to throw it into the ground (where the majority of my previous crashes have occured but probably with too heavy planes), but then I heard that the wheels were quite small and therefore may not work on the longish grass field I usually fly on and therefore I would probably be best modding larger wheels myself on a cheaper Bixler 2.

4. Is there any other factors that I may wish to consider?

I apologise for the many questions asked in this post, but I would be very grateful for any insight.

I would wait there's a bixler style scratch built plane coming soon, so if you are up to it, you can wait and try scratch building! ^w^

Absolutely agree here. I got to fly the Explorer during pass- the- transmitter at Flite Fest. It is a very easy plane to fly, very floaty, and the nice thing is that you can change the wing from polyhedral to a sport wing with ailerons, letting you move up difficulty levels.

On the other hand, if you really want to go with a Bixler, Balu had some time with the Bix 3 during Flite Fest and really enjoyed it. Maybe he can chime in here.

Look up the FliteTest video on the Bix3, I believe it covers most of the differences between the Bixler2 and the Bix3.

As for a FT build. Well a ready made fuse and wing does have advantages over building with foamboard. usually easier to repair, though with DTFB you ould just rebuild, if you have access to DTFB, but rebuilding takes longer even if it's easy. and no need to treat it to make sure it can handle moisture on the ground and air.
