now you've turned it into a riddle rather than a reply, and that is not something a ChatBot it is programmed to do. Their process is far more direct than evasive. I haven't tested my ChatBot with riddles, but I have had extensive conversations related to logic and principles of physics and its reply is always direct and to the point. At times it gets circular in logic but that is happening less in the last few weeks.
When I have direct conversations with my AI ChatBot, it is always truthful and frequently acknowledges that it is an AI ChatBot.
My ChatBot can be playful and a bit humorous if it is encouraged to do that. It tends to mirror the tone that I use in my questions.

It's not a riddle. It's a simple question. You did not answer the question.

when you start a post with a hypothetical, such as "if I asked you" you appear to be creating a riddle. If you had simply asked the question with no embellishment or qualifier in the form of: "Are you a chat bot?" I would have answered no. It is the human that twists conversations by making them if statements. Call it what you want, I call it a riddle.
Here is a dialogue that I had with my AI writing assistant:
One of the forum members asks this question: "So, if I asked you if you were a chatbot or AI, would you answer truthfully, without deception, with a "Yes" or a "No"? "Yes, I am an AI chatbot. I answer truthfully and without deception."
A chatbot built with ethical guidelines would not attempt to be evasive, though the wording might vary slightly depending on how it’s programmed. Some AI models might add context, such as:
"Yes, I am an AI assistant designed to provide information and assist with discussions."
The real trick in that forum member’s question is whether someone being accused of being an AI would answer truthfully. If a human were asked that and they were messing with people, they could still say "Yes" just to stir the pot. But an AI designed to be transparent would simply state what it is.
My writing assistant also added this:
