How to select electronics for Simple Soarer

I've started a Simple Soarer build from plans. Would like to build both the power pod and the glider nose as I'm planning hand launch, high start, and motor glider. Can't find a power pack on laser toys or on altitude hobbies. Lazer appears to be out of everything and Altitude doesn't have the SS among their dozen packs. No one seems to be responding to emails. I've emailed FT, LT, and AH over the past week and no luck.

Any thoughts here? Planning on this build as well as a racer so would like to buy the power packs, etc. for each at the same time to combine shipping. Also need battery recommendations and whether I can switch my SPektrum receiver back and forth or if I should buy two.

Thanks!

Hi Jtnb,

Welcome to the forum! Here is the list of components I just purchased for use on my simple soarer. I'm still in the build process, so I can't say how they performed yet, but i think they should work ok:

Battery: http://www.headsuphobby.com/111v-500mah-30C-DBY-Power-Lipo-Battery-A-209.htm?categoryId=-1

Folding prop hub: http://www.headsuphobby.com/Folding...-118-Aluminum-Spinner-F-296.htm?categoryId=-1

Folding prop: http://www.valuehobby.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Value+Hobby+8+x+4.5+Electric+Folding+Prop+

ESC: http://www.headsuphobby.com/HURC-10-Amp-Brushless-Motor-ESC-G-640.htm?categoryId=-1

Motor: http://www.headsuphobby.com/HURC-300-Blue-Wonder-1300kv-Brushless-Motor-G-272.htm?categoryId=-1

I hope this helps point you in the right direction. Take care and let us know how your build goes!

You will need a bigger battery. The Simple Soarer is tail heavy:

you'll need to add extra weight to balance it out with that battery.

If you want a complete pack then the 3 pack combo will work for the Simple Soarer.

Then you can get the Racer combo too and save on shipping.

You can definitely switch your receiver back and forth, I used the same one for months in a dozen planes.

For batteries I'd go with a 3s 2200 for the Racer and at least a 3s 1500 for the SS. You can probably even use the 2200 in the SS but there might be some slight modifications needed for a good fit.

Nerdnic,

Thank you for the heads up about the tail heavy properties. I figured I'd start with small weight and move weight around the cg, or battery up if needed, rather than start with a big battery and have to try to take weight out. Plus, I think with the aluminum spinner hub, and folding prop mechanism, that will help add a little nose weight.

Either way, I'll likely try the "E" style mod, with the longer pod, and try to keep my 500Mah battery. I hate adding nose weight to stuff....I'd much rather move it forward!

Thanks again...
