Paint adherence issues to white Maker Foam

Never had a problem with the brown foam board but the new white Maker Foam is much more waxy/slippery/shiny. I do all of the same preps as before such as light sanding, using painters tape, etc. but when taping lines/strips/camo/etc. paint still lifts off the surface. I use Rustoleum 2x Primer and paint.

Similar experiences? Solutions? Suggestions

I’ve heard that people scuff it up with a green scouring pad before painting. I haven’t tried it yet but I will soon.

Make sure you give the paint plenty of time to dry before putting tape on it. Other than that it seems like your doing everything right.

I’ve experienced the same problem. Has anyone found a source for the brown fb, is it still made?

Ok, so the trick is lightly sand with 300+ grit and lay down SUPER light coats, I mean SUPER!!!!
It took two planes to figure this out with the help of other members. Just did this with almost zero lifting of paint. FT should mention this about their Maker foam, it was not so much an issue with their brown stuff.

I just have a printer put them on 20 lb. bond, use 3M adhesive

I feel your pain, I first encountered it with my Spitfire and was thinking "What's goin on?" Everything was lifting off. The white foam seems to have more texture and is shinier and slippier (are those even words?) then the older brown stuff.

I had to repaint the wings on this this DR-1 3 times!

My 4 year old MS Spitfire is still doing well with many dozens of flight on her... but the brown paper wants to peel and I'm constantly gluing it back down. I also have a 4 year old MS Corsair that's needed glue therapy on the paper skin, but they're both hanging in there. I got a pair of
nice nose art stickers today for the P-38... but they pulled the paint right off. So I spent my day fixing the paint and throwing away the ruined stickers.

Although I didn't do any masking tape removal tests on the A-51 (2 x white FT MS P51 kits + additional white boards), I agree that numerous VERY light coats is the main trick. No other prep than that performed. I'd believe a little light scrubbing, and I think an alcohol rub, would help further.

Very cool concept! The F-82 had an incredible range with external tanks.
