Painting/finishing 3D printed planes (LW-PLA)

Hi -

I have just finished printing and assembling 3DLabPrint's Piper J-3 Cub. It was printed using ColorFab LW-PLA (color - black). I would like to paint it the classic yellow, so I am looking for advice on how to go about the painting process. Does anyone have some experience with painting LW-PLA?
I am particularly interested in items such as:
  • Is there any prep work that should be down prior to painting?
  • Should I go with spray paint or brush on paint?
  • Do I start with a primer?
  • What are the best/recommended paints?

Thanks!!

@navillus5 i have had good luck simply spraying directly onto the lw-pla. However if you are going to use multiple colors, using tape by itself will not work since the surface texture is a bit rough and porous on the lw-pla. I have found after masking to spray with clear to lock in the edge and then paint the other color.

The below was the natural lw-pla with rustoleum spray paint.
